This is similar to David Carter's situation. A young guy with a lot of talent that showed flashes early on but couldn't show consistency or take his game to the next level. Also guessing attitude/commitment issues played a role here. It's sad how underwhelming our 3rd round picks have been. Thank god for Andre Roberts and hopefully Tyrann Mathieu.

Looks like Kerry Taylor just got promoted in Fleming's place so we won't be short of WRs on Sunday if Fitz can't go.

He was never given a chance to show his "consistency". Under this coaching staff he was never given a shot and when he was he outperformed what Cason gave them.

But alas Cason was a free agent signing this year and Fleming was only a draft pick last year.

Fleming is going to catch on somewhere. Too much talent as a cover man to not catch on. This should just be a wake up call for him, he needs to buckle down mentally and work hard in the meetings and film room.

That seemed to be all that was holding him back from what Ray Horton said last year.

Nothing against him but was surprised he was no cut sooner.

1. Michael Floyd
3. Jamel Fleming(gone)
4. Bobbie Massie( benched)
5. Senio Kelemete(gone)
6. Justin Bethel
6. Ryan Lindley(who cares)
7. Nate Potter (probably gone soon)

At least we got Justin Bethel right? But man, this looked like a promising class at one point, didn't it?

Also, just to rub salt in our wounds...our 2nd rounder from this class was wasted on Kolb.

No wonder Graves and Whisenhunt lost their jobs. Sheesh

Floyd- Love him. Probably the most intimidating run blocking WR I've ever seen on this team and he can make the highlight reel catches.
Massie- This guy still has starting potential. This is still a great pick just wish he was more versatile.
Bethel- Star ST player in the 6th round who beat out our 3rd round CB? I'll take it.
Potter- backup swing tackle/guard in the 7th? I'll take it.

This draft is not horrible. I'd give it a C- now. It's the lost pick to Kolb that still irks me to this day. Trading DRC and giving him a massive contract should have been enough Laughing

The pair were never really in a battle though. Fleming is a guy who was going to make the team based on defensive play. Bethel is a guy who would not be in the NFL if not for his top notch ST's play.

The combination of Kolb/Fleming make it a very ugly draft. Essentially our 2nd and 3rd round picks are playing elsewhere. They lasted a combined 3 seasons.

Edit: Kolb isn't playing elsewhere, he is injured reserving elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure Bethel has been ahead of Fleming on the depth chart (at CB) since spring/early summer which leads me to believe that he was outperforming him at corner. Remember when Arians had two practices at once? Fleming never made it to the "better field" while Bethel did. If Fleming was performing better at CB than Bethel than he would have played ahead of him at some point. He never did this offseason.
