2013 Week 1 Bears vs Bengals Edition

On his contested touchdown catch:
"I grew up with a lot of kids," Bennett said. "To eat, you've got to be the first one downstairs to get yours. It was like that. Everybody had a hand in the pot. But I came out with the chitlins."
And
"[Cutler] trusted me enough just to put it up there where I could get it over the defenders and I was able to come down with it. I had to channel my inner Brandon Marshall."

On why he didn't use his superior size to shake Iloka with a wrestling move.
"I grew up watching Triple H and The Rock," he said. "I know a lot of those moves. There were a lot of holes in the wall growing up from (us) body-slamming each other. Nothing like the People's Elbow."

On his two holding penalties:
"I didn't think it was holding; the coaches didn't think it was holding," Bennett said. "I'm going to send it into the league and see what they say. Both of them."

On his first regular season game as a Bear at Soldier Field:
I was jittery till the second quarter, he said. After I caught the touchdown [in the first quarter], I needed my prostate checked."

On how much/the way he talks:
The days I come to practice and dont say anything, everybody thinks Im sick"

LOL Laughing

He's pretty funny, you gotta give him that. Hopefully his play this season is as good as his sound bites. So far so good.

Marty is one of a kind, that's all there really is to say about him. Look up his youtube video about cereal. It's hysterical.

You need to add

"I'm a convertible, know what I'm saying?" Bennett said. "No ceiling".

That could be a rap lyric.

Bennett was on the Jay Cutler Show yesterday. I don't have a transcript, but there was a hilarious part where he talked about using the name "Marty" instead of "Martellus" on his resume to trick employers into thinking he's white. Then he talked about being a strong swimmer, contrary to certain stereotypes. Absolutely hilarious non-PC jokes in an increasingly PC world.

I listened to that 2. Marty brings stereotypes up all the time. But he's sly about it that no one get affended or everyone just chuckles.

He is one odd cookie

I can't post the line he used to greet reporters when I was down in Bourbonnais because the language filter will block it.

I was looking for the youtube video of Marty's "Cap n' Crunch" song, but couldn't find it. Has anyone else found it?

That's the one, only it's 11 seconds long. He must have taken it down.

Week 2 edition

Postgame, from the podium
On the game winner:
"Well I thought I was going to score on the play right before that when I put a nice little they didnt know I had jukes out there. They told me, Man how are you so slippery, youre so big? I was like, Im Muhammad Ali out here."

Are you more like a butterfly or a bee (you have to hear him say this one, the transcript doesn't do it justice):
I am a little bit of both. Im sweet. I move like a butterfly and I sting like a bee. Im a little bit of both. I like to be a butterfly because sometimes you have to spread your wings and have you ever tried to catch a butterfly with your hands? You cant do it. You need a net. Theyve got butterfly nets just for catching butterflies. Hopefully they dont make a unicorn net just for catching unicorns, especially black ones."

On if he is seeing a different side of Jay Cutler than the one that people say has a short fuse
I never saw that side of him. I think everybody on the offense has a short fuse. Its me, its Brandon (Marshall), its Cutty. We all talk about fighting off our demons before the day starts. So when we come out there, were like, Dont bring no demons out here which means, you cant bring us down. Were counting on you so fight your demons off. So we all just joke before the games or practice about fighting off our demons. I think Cutty, hes a great guy. Hes funny. He likes to laugh. He laughs at me most of the time but hes just a great guy to play with. I just love being in the huddle you see him across from you and hes just a guy you can count on. Off the field I called him in the summertime, Hey lets get some routes in. We [threw] all summer. Its just been a pleasure to play with him.
(I thought this was particularly insightful. Anyone who has a competitive side can relate.)

From Waddle and Silvy's Jay Cutler show:
His scouting report on Jay:
"He's the 4 C's: Cutty is cool, calm, and collected"

On whether his teammates call him Marty:
"That is my white people's name"
[Going back to career day in school] "I figured if I put 'Martellus' on a job application, I wasn't gonna get the job. But if I put 'Marty', they don't know if I'm black or while until I walk in"

On how he came up with yet another nickname for himself, the Orange Dinosaur:
"Well, I like the color orange, and I like dinosaurs...so I just put em both together. Like my XBox [Live] name is Deep Dish Panda, because I like pandas and I like deep dish pizza when I play video games."

On his relationship with Trestman:
"I always say that coach Trestman reminds me of the first Willy Wonka ... not the one from 1943...because he's a genius ... a lot of times when you are around really smart people, you don't understand them, and I thought Willy Wonka was brilliant. I mean, he had all kinds of candy, who doesn't like chocolate and candies..."

What types of shows do you watch:
"I watch a lot of cartoons... I also watch a lot of Lifetime... Men, if you want to learn how NOT to treat a woman: watch Lifetime"

On Tom Waddle having the same thoughts on a game winning catch he made:
"YOU played football?!?!? ...What league did you play in?"

On whether he is likely to take up gardening:
"Well, I went to A&M so I know a bit about Agriculture"

Do you have a green thumb:
"Yeah, I got green thumbs--from counting money"
(so baller)

Other teammates nicknames:
Forte: "Mr. Fabuloso, because he's like an all purpose cleaner, you can use him anywhere"
Kyle Long: "Shrek, because he's built like an ogre, and he has layers"
