Namdi looked straight up scared to tackle. Not surprising but very disappointing. I'm hoping the bad tackling is a result of not being able to practice tackling much in preseason.
I think the grading this secondary for their play yesterday needs to be taken with a large grain of salt. It's not like they were playing John Skelton out there, they were going against the best QB in the league. He's going to make even the best secondary look average to below average. I think this group will be good but its darn near impossible to look elite against Rodgers. Not to mention his back shoulder throws. That's like Rodgers bread and butter and his favorite pass. I don't remember seeing a ton of it but those are tough to stop. |

No doubt, it is always going to be tough going up against someone of the caliber of Rodgers. The back shoulder passes are just too tough to stop no matter how tight of a coverage you have. I just didn't like the two missed tackles and playing off coverage in the red zone. Nelson had just about as easy of a TD as you could get. _________________

I think cornerback metrics are stupid and don't take into account so many variables. |

Am I the only one who thinks Nnamdi played well? _________________

He played pretty good, but that missed tackle led to 7 points. That is my biggest knock on him, but aside from that he was great at the LOS. Only reception he allowed while he was in press coverage was the 31 yard back shoulder pass to Nelson. And I'm still a bit confused to why he played so off on Nelson on the TD and gave him a free release. Maybe he thought they were running a different defense, but have to clean that up. _________________

They definitely don't take everything into account, but they aren't bad either. Lets you know roughly how that certain player did in coverage. _________________

Yeah its not perfect but it's atleast something of an indication of their play. |

Eh, I guess... but it's just one stat I never really take seriously. I'm typically an eye-test kind of guy to begin with, but especially so when it comes to corners. |

I read somewhere that we allowed the lowest YAC in the league last year. Basically, if someone catches the ball, they get hit as soon as they do and they go down, for the most part.
It sure didn't look like that yesterday. Guys are going to catch perfect passes, even with great coverage, but our tackling was very sub-par. I think that tells a much bigger story.
Aaron Rodgers is going to throw passes to guys that are almost impossible to defend against, but we needed to not pour salt on the wound by missing a bunch of key tackles.
We cannot play like that in Seattle. We'll lose. _________________

That was without a doubt the worst tackling exhibition I can remember seeing from this team since Harbaugh took over. This seems to be an anomaly. But considering it was two of the new guys (Asomugha, Reid) that missed a couple tackles each, maybe it's not.
You are right about not affording it in Seattle. Wilson, Lynch and Tate are amazing at breaking/eluding tackles. |

The poor tackling honestly reminds me of the Super Bowl where I wanted to bang my head on a wall. If this is a continuing trend for the rest of the year the team is going to have to pick up the slack in other areas to make up for it. Or you know...start tackling better. |

Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but it seemed like there were a lot of missed tackles. Or, possibly just big ones that ended up with big yard gains or scores.
Is there a "missed tackle" stat somewhere? I couldn't find anything current, just the top 10 best and worst tacklers from previous years. _________________

I'd like to see how many snaps they were in coverage for. I think that would paint a little better picture on how well they performed. _________________

Depends on what you mean by well. He played on Nelson for most of the game, I believe, and while he wasn't completely outmatched, Nelson clearly had the advantage. So it's sort of a situation where it was like, "okay, this is what he is. A guy who can probably cover average to above average receivers with success, but maybe struggle a little with the good and very good receivers". I would trust him on some receivers, and then be afraid when he's covering others. _________________
