Per Brian McIntyre - @brian_mcintyre Earl Bennett took a 1 million dollar pay cut this year. His base salary was reduced from 2.25 million to 1.25 million. Bears save 1m in cap space.

And some of you don't want to believe that they were looking at the possibility of trading/releasing Bennett? Rolling Eyes

I told you, where there's smoke there's fire. Unless Bennett has a really good season, I would believe that he's not in Emery's long term plans.

The rest of Bennett's contract was untouched. He's still signed through 2015, though this could easily be his last season in Chicago. Bennett is no higher than the No. 4 or 5 option in the passing game as the slot receiver.

Earl Bennett is over paid to make tackles on sts.

Good WRs are tough to find. Why is no one taking EB?

I was reading the Lions forum the other night, and they had a thread called something like 'who is your least favorite lion.' I was surprised by the number of different names they listed (I assumed they were not looking for outside input to that question... Twisted Evil ).

Which got me to thinking, who is MY least favorite Bear on the roster? I honestly had a hard time coming up with a name, considering all of the dead weight we lost this offseason. But eventually I settled on Earl Bennett. Here's the thing though, I actually love watching him play.

But the guy just can't stay on the field, and it's been that way ever since he signed that (entirely reasonable) contract. All I have wanted/expected from him was to be a reliable contributor to the offense, but if you can't stay on the field (whoever/whatever is to blame), you're neither.

Good to hear. He wasn't worth the extra money. $1.25 is much better.

Bennett knows that with his injuries no team is going to pay him 2.5 million dollars at this point.

So take a pay cut with a chance to earn it back with production.

Earl has also cashed 10 million already.

Emery is a shrew businessmen and I like how we are being smart with our money.

That explains why he is still on the team. At his former salary he was, as I said, gone.

$2.25M is hardly a big salary for a #3 WR - even one who has a hard time staying on the field.
