It's not secret that we have Super Bowl potential if the cards fall the right way for us. So my question is this: which Texan is the most valuable and irreplaceable to our hopes at a title

Lots of good choices, and while some guys are irreplaceable they aren't 100% vital. For instance everyone's favorite Andre Johnson can't be replaced, but we can possibly win a title without him

This is a short list of players, Matt Schaub, JJ Watt, Jonathan Joseph, but my choice - Duane Brown

We can't win a title if he goes down

Thoughts?

I agree with your list but I would add Myers and Cushing. Ben Jones or Cody White starting and calling line adjustments is terrifying as is another season of the Dobbins, Sharpton (or Mays) shuffle. I still put Watt up top as we just don't know what we have yet in Mercilus who would need to become the primary pass rushing threat if anything happened to JJ. AJ still belongs high on the list until we see what we have in Hopkins, especially with the gulf in talent from the top 2 to Martin, Posey, Jean. Foster belongs as I simply don't trust Tate. Wade belongs on the list as we've seen how awful Jones is on the left side and the it will impact Brown. I put Manning on there because Keo is awful and Swearinger & Reed as so new to the system (and because I didn't want to put Kareem on there). Brooks Reed and Antonio get honorable mentions as tone setters, but we have decent short-term backups. Losing either of them long-term would sting.

1. Watt
2. D. Brown
3. Myers
4. Schaub
5. Cushing
6. Joseph
7. AJ
8. Foster
9. Wade Smith
10. D. Manning

Watt
Brown
Schaub
Joseph
Cushing

Would be my top 5.

I would agree that Duane Brown is at the top of the list. Our run game last year was abysmal aside from the left side. If we lost Duane Brown and had to deal with an extended period lf Ryan Harris or David Quessenberry, our entire offense would be in trouble.

How is Watt not on that initial list? Just imagine a Watt'less pass rush.

Surprised nobody has put Schaub at the top of the list yet.

Schaub is pretty much are only QB tht gives us a chance to win a superbowl. That is unless we're going to trade for another or are expecting Yates or Keenun to break out.

I disagree, our team is run first and manage the game. Yates and Keenum are god enough to let our defense and run game carry us. Im still not sold on Schaub being good enough to win a super bowl, so my level of expectation for those 2 don't dip too much.

Since run first and manage the game is such a successful system. I'm not saying Schaubs a great QB but he's far and away better than Yates and Keenum and much more important to making playoffs, let alone winning a superbowl

We did two years ago with a rookie Yates, exactly what we did with a healthy Schaub last year

We were what 7-3 when he went down and 3-3 with Yates.

Let's not go saying we got there with Yates. It was the work Matty put in earlier that got us there.

Yup. Comparing playoff wins from the two years is ridiculous in the first place.

Schaub gives us a great chance at winning our division and getting a top 4 seed. Yates and Keenum give us a punchers chance at winning the division.

and lets not act as if Yates was even close to being prepared. Give Yates a full off-season a number 1 with our TALENTED offense around him and he will do no worse than Matt. Matt is AVERAGE, a guy who throws for yards but doesn't throw a lot of tds and his td to int ratio is terrible. He is what he is, average.

You have no proof that Yates would do that. Yates needs to beat out undrafted free agent qbs like Keenum before you can see he can take you as far as Schaub.

Also none of our quarterbacks will have oustanding TD:INt ratios. We run once we get in the ten yard line.

You can prefer Yates sinking and dunking down the field but ill take Schaub.

No offense or anything, but you guys are a team predicated on defense. Matt Schaub isn't the typical Super Bowl winning quarterback. He's capable of helping a team get to the Super Bowl, and he's capable of playing well enough for the Texans to win the Super Bowl, but this team is not offense-oriented. And so Duane Brown doesn't seem like the most indispensable player on your team. I'd say it's Watt. His pass rush, his run stopping, his leadership (I assume), his ball swatting, his big plays which are untypical of the position he plays... I think your most important player and most valuable player and most crucial to any Super Bowl win is Watt.

Other than that, I've been a Texan fan since the year they first came into the league. I'm a Packer fan first and always have been and always will be, but I remember when the Texans entered the league and they signed Jamie Sharper, the brother of my favorite player at the time Darren Sharper. And I remember liking David Carr. I didn't know it then, but drafting a quarterback first overall for an expansion team was a terrible idea.

Anyway, I've remained a Texans fan ever since their inception and you guys have had a lot of players I've loved and you guys have consistently drafted players I desperately wanted the Packers to draft. Mario Williams, Xavier Adibi, Steve Slaton, JJ Watt, Brooks Reed and DJ Swearinger this year.

Anyway, wishing you guys the best of luck on your season and the Texans, as always, will be my second team I'd like to see win the Super Bowl.
