Danny Watkins to the Dolphins a done-deal. A one-year contract, I'm told.

Can't hurt I guess. This coaching staff has been trying to replace John Jerry for two years.

There is talent there. The question seems to be motivation.

PFT is reporting that he's close to signing. Hasn't gone through yet, but it's looking likely.

Living close to the Philly area, I have heard the same things over and over again. It seemed his passion had died. His talent is definitely there.

He's a guy that for this year could be the swing-guard, and then next season if they can get anything out him will have the chance to compete for a starting job at either guard spot.

I dont think Jerry is a great guard. But i will never complain bc the difference of him vs Samuda was drastic. I hope Jerry stays and Watkins backs him up this year at least.

Samuda was waived to make room for Watkins, so no more Samuda

I understand that. But alot of people complain about Jerry. When I cant be the only one who missed him bc Samuda was a revolving door.

Love the cut of Samuda and Watkins pick up

acceptable is better than bad. Jerry is at least usually a good pass protector, even if his run blocking leaves something to be desired.

Potential is there and if nothing else could provide some quality depth....

Hopefully being around Incognito, Pouncey, and Clabo will help with his toughness....I did hear he's not huge, but has good feet which would do well in the ZBS.

As noted to me by a friend who did get a chance to see Samuda in camp and preseason games - there was no step up taken by him from last year to this year and in some instances looked as if he had actually regressed.

So really no surprise here as the bottom of the roster can have a high turnover rate with players the coaching staff sees in their opinion as an upgrade available.

We should have never been in this situation. Ireland made a lot of great moves, but assuming Lance Louis was enough to solidify the guard position and ignoring LT were huge errors.

Still, at least he's not letting it stay that way and is trying to improve. Low risk, potentially solid payout. Good move.
