Terrible deal. The Bengals should re-think this, and consider letting him walk...

...

Please? Sad

Great deal cant believe its that cheap tho. He got 55mill yet Haynesworth got 100mill somehow smh

I think it's a smart deal for Geno. He's only 25 years old so he could potentially land another mega-deal in 4-5 years when this deal is up...

So you're telling me there is a chance...

He isn't even a good fit for the 3-4... Laughing

Is it just me or does that seem like a fantastic deal for IMO the best DT in the league? The Bengals did pretty well on this, Geno still gets paid too.

Yeah. It's a fantastic deal. I'm jealous.

In FFMD II, Geno got extended for 6 years/$63 Million with $38.4 Million Guaranteed. So only about $500k per year off.

Not bad...

The beauty of getting deals done early is the ability to getting a player cheaper. The player essentially trades a little money for long term security now. If you wait until the player hits the market or sign a player off the open market, you pay a premium.

That's the biggest reason the draft and develop is the most effective way of building a winning franchise.

For as much as Mike Brown gets flack for being cheap, he did well here. They definitely do need new practice facilities though. Laughing

Excellent contract for the Bengals. He is receiving the same 5 years, $55 million that Calais Campbell is receiving from the Cardinals, and Atkins is clearly a better player than Campbell.

As a Jets fan, I am very happy with this contract. It likely lowers the future asking price of Muhammad Wilkerson.

Eh, lets calm down with that. They're both very good players. I wouldn't say Atkins is clearly better.

Then you haven't seen enough of Atkins.

Seriously though. High School teams have indoor practice facilities and we don't...

That is kind of sad. The whole thunderstorm saga during Hard Knocks made me feel bad.

I know this isn't a good excuse but when the Bengals keep losing in the postseason and during the week you're hearing stories about how rain/cold/etc... caused practices to be cut short or moved during the week, you're thinking WTF?

I mean it's a playoff game and I'm reading stories about how Bengal players are loading into buses to trek 60 minutes away Mason, Ohio to be able to practice indoors. An additional 2 hours to your commute every day, isn't ideal when you're preparing for a big game...

Damn. Well, now that Geno in Seattle is out of the question, I'm still curious what Bengals fans would have considered his trade value prior to this extension either in form of draft picks or player(s).

I would have had no problem moving Sherman as I don't think we'll be able to pay him what he wants. Earl Thomas is more important to our defense anyway IMO and it isn't even close.

Multiple firsts. Game changers on defense don't come along often. He is arguably the most important player on the team.

Yeah, I didn't realize any teams still practiced in their stadiums, and not having an indoor facility is just weird. Are there any other teams that don't have one? Even most big college teams have indoor practice facilities now.
