Report: 49ers to sign Harbaugh favorite Owen Marecic

Quote:
The 49ers' starting fullback is Bruce Miller, and that's unlikely to change. Marecic's addition, however, could be bad news for a special teams candidate. Anthony Dixon plays tailback, fullback and special teams. However, his value increased with LaMichael James' recent knee injury. Ray Ventrone presumably also is vulnerable.

I thought I'd start a thread on this, even though I know it was being talked about in a couple posts.

I'm unsure about this signing. Bruce is considered a top FB, and I'm not sure where Marecic would fit in. From what I hear from the Browns, he's terrible.

How is it there's one reply in this thread already and it didn't mention anything about the "San Francisco Browns"? Laughing

Yeah, I don't understand this one. We were fine at FB with Miller and Dixon. Confused

I don't like the nonsensical signings. Makes me think someone knows something that we don't.

I think it's more a ST move. And I would think Dixon is the one who is safe and Ventrone isn't as safe.

Actually, this makes me wonder if Dixon will be the surprise cut now. Not hoping, just speculating...

Not with the LMJ injury.

First person that came to my mind was Dixon. His roster spot could be at risk.

I believe he was our fb crush out of the draft a few years ago. Lots of 49er fans mocked him to us as a harbaugh guy. We were disappointed we didn't draft him and instead ended up with this DE from a small school, bruce miller.

I don't understand it either. Miller is bigger, faster, and has better hands than Marecic.

I always liked Own at Standofrd, but I also always thought that Harbaugh liked hm overly much. He'll probbably be taking the ST place that could have gone to Osgood or Morris (who runs a 4.3 forty). Let's see if this turns out to be a good signing, or a rare cse of Jim getting too emotionally attached to one of his guys.
