Here are the numbers of UDFAs that participated on the active rosters of playoff teams last year:

Pats 18
Ravens 18
Texans 12
Broncos 17
Colts 26
Bengals 14
Skins 15
Packers 25
Falcons 13
49ers 12
Seahawks 15
Vikings 10

Last year the number for the Browns was 18.

I didn't look for them all, but the Ravens had 9 UDFAs that were either rookies or 2nd year players last year.

Interesting. I have a few questions, though.

I keed, I keed.

We're currently at 20 by my count, 9 of them rookies.

Is that the first person we've signed to the PS? I haven't heard of any others.

No we signed several.

Jasper Collins WR MUC
Kip Edwards DB
Darius Eubanks DB
Terrence Fredrick DB
Tori Gurley WR
Julian Posey DB
Janoris Slaughter DB

Looks like we still have a spot open.

Who do you think it might be reserved for? Bryant? An OL?

Still think armonty Bryant gets cut and/or moved to ps...

And 11 OL still...

Something tells me that the Browns fear that Bryant may be swiped if they release him.

Well damn. That makes me a lot less uneasy. I'm actually super stoked about the idea of a team full of UDFA. Nobody is hungrier for a shot at the big time.

What is Bryant's role or future role? Did he put on weight? Last I saw he was listed at 265, I doubt he can play at end at that weight. I don't remember seeing him in the preseason, though I may have but overlooked him. Kruger is 270, is that where he will eventually back up? Anyone?

I'm not sure about what exactly the plans are for him. Probably a 3-4 DE, like the other Bryant. I suspect the Browns would like to see him get a little bigger, stronger, and learn more techniques for occupying blocks/double teams and gap control--like a 5T.

As it stands right now, however, he can rush from the DE position in a 4 man front--and that can be valuable to a lot of NFL teams, including ours.

Looks like the Browns made OG Caylin Hauptmann their 8th and final Practice Squad player.

Just found this and thought some would like to see it.

Really no one of note here. Seems other teams have picked up the Browns "garbage" and had little success.

Quote:
Bills - QB Thaddeus Lewis
Buccaneers - WR Jordan Norwood
Buccaneers - WR Carlton Mitchell
Colts - S Larry Asante
Dolphins - WR Keenan Davis
49ers - QB Seneca Wallace
Patriots - DL Marcus Benard
Jets - WR Mohamed Massaquoi
Jets - WR Braylon Edwards
Jets - OL J.B. Shugarts
Jets - LB JoJo Dickson
Jets - S Bret Lockett
Panthers - LB Ben Jacobs
Panthers - LB Ryan Rau
Packers - C Garth Gerhart
Raiders - WR Joshua Cribbs
Redskins - OT Tony Pashos
Seahawks - QB Brady Quinn
Texans - FB Tyler Clutts

Seneca was signed by GB to be Rogers backup. Quinn is also now in NY Also why you won't have JMJ for KC, Don Carey for Jacksonville/Detroit, Sanford for da Raidahs, ...

Hey guys, Chiefs fan here. I was wondering if you could tell me more about James Michael-Johnson. I liked him coming out of Nevada and was pretty surprised when he was released by the Browns, IIRC he started 9 games last year and by all accounts was pretty solid. I have a ton of respect for Ray Horton and I find it interesting that he was let go considering many project him as better inside in a 3-4 front, which the Chiefs employ. What can you tell me about him from his short time in Cleveland?

He was inconsistent last year. He showed a few flashes early on, but the flashes became fewer and far between as the season wore on. He seemed to get washed out pretty easily and never really looked good in coverage. His season ended early because of injury.

Most reports I saw from this year said that he was totally lost in Ray Horton's system. Horton values speed and coverage ability in his LB's, and JMJ was lacking in both. Basically, the new regime had a somewhat negative view of JMJ, and he never really did anything to change that opinion.

I'm very interested in this kid we signed from Jax Paul hazel.....a 6'5 229lb olb prospect that ran a 4.52 at his pro day....and from all accounts looks like we may have found a poor mans Mingo II?

Thanks for the feedback. I am hoping he can develop as at a minimum a solid special teamer that sticks around for a couple of years. Hopefully Nico Johnson will develop opposite Derrick Johnson and JMJ will only serve as depth. I liked him coming out of Nevada and I still think there is a skill set there, but as you said, the key will be if he can fit into the right system.

JMJ definitely did not start nine games last season. I'm not sure if he started in any game, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near that many. He didn't really stick out much last year. Prior to training camp, I had hope that he would become a starting ILB, but he supposedly struggled in Horton's system.
