I think my point wasn't clear enough... but the game plan is built off of the team's strengths and capabilities. Clearly they don't trust Locker to go out and run the full gamut of the playbook, and keep him limited to minimize mistakes.

My question really revolves around is that the type of QB that we keep around in the long-term and hope that beyond his rookie deal he really is let loose? Or do we move in another direction and find a young QB that has more of what he lacks (accuracy, pocket-presence, etc) and can give more flexibility in how we approach a tough matchup?

In my opinion, too soon to tell. If we're still at this point when he comes up for a new contract, then it will probably be obvious we need to find a new QB. But if we start to open it up and Jake responds to the challenge, then we're good. I do think that the Steeler defense is one of the more complex (thanks to LeBeau) and talented in the NFL. So just because they kept it conservative - in a game we were winning - doesn't necessarily mean Locker is a lost cause.

This is Jake's first season as the starter.

He already defied the peanut gallery by leading (managing?) his team to a historic win (Steelers were undefeated at home openers for an entire decade). And all those interceptions he threw? Oops..that's right. Jake had no interceptions.

And to comment on getting rid of him? Sorry but I won't indulge.

I'll hold off any negative commentary until he loses a game.

We really need to stop "getting rid" of people after one game into a new season. Locker was by no means spectacular but neither were a lot of other QB's in week one (Barring a couple of exceptions).

Now if we are still talking about his inability to hit open receivers and his happy feet scenarios come week four or five then I'll start to get worried.

I will add, though he missed some pretty easy throws, he did make one or two clutch connections on third downs towards the end of the game and I thought he looked more comfortable later on in the game.

False.

That one.

He also only completed 11 passes (last among all week 1 starters) and threw for 125 yards (only QB he beat there was Gabbert...by 4 yards)

Seems like a poor way to judge QBs.

I have very little faith in Locker and our WRs. I love the running game and the defense seems to be greatly improved, so as long as they ground it out then they should be fine. I hope to God that Locker proves me wrong, but he was wildly inconsistent yet again on Sunday.

Hass was our starter last year. He took the majority of snaps in preseason. Am I wrong? This is Jakes's 1st off-season where he was #1 and got the reps to show for it. Are you disputing this?

Jake pulled off some crucial passes when we absolutely needed them. He scrambled when he needed to and moved the chains. When Steelers had our WRs covered, Jake checked down. I don't get it. Do you have to have a certain QB rating before you can become a leader? What do the guys on the team think?

And you don't refute my statement that Jake threw zero interceptions good.

How to judge QBs varies.

You've gone out of your way to make this very clear. You have no "faith" in Jake Locker, Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Kendall Wright, Justin Hunter, Damien Williams.

Noted.

Jake was our starter and he got injured in the Houston game.

Can't blame you for blocking last season out of your memory though. Laughing

He was our Week 1 starter.

Views of all third down passes by Jake. Nice article.

You are absolutely wrong on this. Locker started week 1 and would have started every game had he stayed healthy. Locker threw 24 passes to Hasselbeck's 14 in the preseason when Locker was named the starter before the first game.

He was wildly inconsistent. He made some good throws and some absolutely horrible ones. He's simply not a good QB right now.

How am I supposed to refute a fact? He also threw 0 TDs, 1 of only 2 starters to not throw a TD in week 1.

Only looking at wins makes you end up with Vince Young or Tim Tebow.

It is Jake's first off-season with getting all of the #1 reps. He split them with Hass last year.

He was named the official starter mid-preseason last year. I remember because I tweeted about it and it was the first day of classes

Correct but this was Jakes first offseason as the sure-fire starter with no competition. I thinks that is what TitanTuff was trying to say.
