The news are that it was announced and confirmed now, not sure why this bothers you... i mean you yourself posted a news update on the last game-day thread that Gabbert will start that game [against the Jets], it's no big deal, but everyone treats this news as an announcement of Gabbert been named the starter officially. _________________

The only possible news about this is that Gabbert's injury definitely won't keep him out of regular season play. _________________

No surprise here. Hopefully Henne and his contract are shown the door soon. _________________

Won't happen
Gabbert's thumb is still a bit of a concern, and Henne is far more solid depth than Matt Scott or Kafka. _________________

The team is really no better of, win/loss-wise, whether Henne stinks it up or one of the other two does the same. All three are just guys, but one of them is overpaid.
The fallback option for Blaine is in college right now. Hopefully we don't need one, but we know that guy isn't a Jaguar yet. _________________

Only thing that will derail Gabbert is injury. Something more serious than a cracked thumb. The committment that Caldwell and Bradley made wasn't short term. They had to open up the competition because they hadn't had a chance to see the quarterbacks up close before. Without the injury last year, Blaine would have been firmly established as the starter before they took over. But then again, that might have bought more time for Smith and Mularkey, so it isn't necessarily a bad thing in retrospect.
But Gabbert has had to win the job every year he has been in the NFL in front of an entirely new coaching staff. Chad Henne isn't chopped liver, he was a three year starter in the league before the Jags got him, just entering his prime as an NFL quarterback. He would be starting in a couple of other locations around the league and may end up doing so. But he and Gabbert together earn less than $5 million per year, and most starting QBs around the league are over $10 million by themselves. It's a nice situation for the team, but if Henne gets a chance to start elsewhere they won't stand in his way. Chad just turned 28. He is younger than Matt Flynn who has two career starts, and younger than Brandon Weeden who was a rookie last year. |

If Gabbert and JLaw got together, they'd start the master race. |

Henne is garbage, that's all there is to it. If he was all those things you said, the Dolphins would have retained him rather than draft Tannehill.
And no, Gabbert wouldn't have bought Smith and Mularkey more time. He wouldn't have won us any more games that 3 total, at best. And that type of performance, coupled with the absolute distain players had for Mularkey was ending that performance. _________________

Henne was "replaced" in Miami because he went on IR for the year. The same way that Gabbert was "replaced" in Jacksonville. Who knows what job offers he had? Or would have had if he hadn't signed with Jacksonville so quickly. Certainly not yourself. He isn't a franchise quarterback by any means, but to call him "garbage" is petty.
I'm sick of this place. |

So he is out with an injury but already named the starter? Kind of surprised by that _________________
