Week 3 of the preseason is basically a dress rehearsal for the season. This is terrible timing. EJ was probably going to play the 1st half of the game with most of our starters and key contributors. Now I don't see how we can start him week 1 with very little reps under his belt. Especially against the mad scientist that is Bill Belichick. The only way I see EJ starting is if he is 100% healthy and Kolb is awful the next two preseason games. Which is a terrible position to be in.
This little reps??? His first game he played an entire half. That is not usual. He has had his fair share of snaps in preseason. He is losing a lot reps but he has also had more thus far than starting QBs usually do.

Fair share of snaps? He needs a lot more than 3 quarters. Also he has been checking down on his throws. The offense has been very vanilla. Also same with the defenses he has faced so far in the preseason. He played the 3rd quarter vs 2nd and 3rd stringers. I find it hard to believe that he is going to be ready mentally to face the Patriots week 1. He needs as many reps as possible. Especially in week 3 of the preseason. That is going to be the closest thing to a regular season game so far, and now he doesn't get that much needed experience. Also he has seen more reps than most QB's because he is a rookie in a unique offensive system.

Hackett said he is going to give CJ the ball until he pukes. Now he has to give CJ the ball until he keels over.

Hard to not see Kolb starting week 1.

Well, this obviously sucks. And sure I'd like to see him get more snaps, but I guess you roll with what you have. I'll support whoever we put out there on the field and besides, I certainly hadn't gotten to the point where I thought EJ would have taken us to the playoffs or anything this year. (I'm still hoping we can pull off 8 wins somehow.) In the meantime, EJ better live in that film room when he's not doing physical therapy!

Manuel had successful surgery this morning. He will miss the preseason and be day-to-day after that (has not yet been ruled out for week 1). The Bills will not add another quarterback to the roster. Tuel is in the competition to be the starting quarterback.

really think they shoudl have added a "camp arm" just to finish 4th quarter games.

This news obviously sucks, but I still see Manuel starting week 1 unless Kolb balls.

I honestly think we see Jeff Tuel starting week one.

Honestly if that happens I will believe that Pigs can fly and that Bigfoot is hiding in my back yard while The Lochness Monster is in lake erie just chillin.

That wont happen, While Tuel is having a great camp/preseason, he isnt a starting QB yet, he had a great game against the colts 3rd and 4th stringers. Then played garbage time against Minnesota. Unless he comes out guns blazing against Washington and Detroit he will be our 3rd QB.

It seems like this situation answers the question "will the Bills keep two or three quarterbacks on the roster."

I ain't worried about anything. EJ will probably start by week two or three. No need to rush him back.

Manuel Update

Doug Marrone wrote:
After the minor procedure we're keeping him off his feet for the first 48 hours, but were making sure that he gets to his meetings, gets his (practice) tape and get him out there as soon as possible.

Procedure went well and another update is expected tomorrow. Cross your fingers for a super speedy recovery.

I'm taking this statement as "don't worry fella's, things went well and he will be starting week 1."

EJ update
Head coach Doug Marrone provided an update on how EJ Manuel is making out now a couple of days removed from surgery. Hes still on crutches, but has already begun the rehab process.

that's a good sign, but still bothers me that no one has said exactly what the procedure is.
