@Cardschatter: #AzCardinals place WR Ryan Swope on reserve-retired list. Not a shock, but tough way for his brief Cards career to end.

@Cardschatter: #AzCardinals officially announce agreements with LB John Abraham (2 yrs) and T Eric Winston (1 yr). Cut LB O達rien Schofield. #CardsCamp

Swope was a highly regarded prospect coming into the draft but slipped to the 6th round due to concussions which now forced him to retire.

Schofield has had a pretty produce career short career for the Cardinals so his release is a bit surprising, in 3 seasons he recorded 10.5 sacks. [4.5 sacks each of the past two seasons] Despite only starting 9 out of 39 games.

***Update***
The Seahawks claimed O'Brien Schofield off waivers from the Cardinals.

Really want to go back and look at all the 'Swope in the 2nd Round please' type posts.

People thought he'd be a steal in the 3rd.

At least he hasn't gone the Jahvid Best route and made many a futile attempt to get over massive concussion history and just spending an entire career on IR.

Question: The timing is odd, what has happened to make Swope come to this conclusion today?

Good, the NFL needs less Aggies anyways. Wink

I'm assuming it was a "if you're not cleared in time for training camp" situation.

I'd like the Raiders to take a look at O達rien Schofield, liked him coming out and he has at least some production to show for it.

well yeah, this was before the concussions were known by everyone. He was a 6th round pick despite the team knowing he might never play a down due to his concussions - this means he had upper-end talent like many people saw.

i had him graded out as a 2nd round pick watching him play, once I learned about his health issues I had him unranked because I have no way of knowing just how severe of an issue it was.

So I welcome you to go back and read those posts, you'll probably find posters who know their stuff.

Wow.

I thought Swope, injuries aside, was going to be a damn solid player in the NFL.

Very unfortunate.

Talent wise, that is where he belonged.

Hope he can have a healthy and productive life away from the NFL.

Good job, Swope. Good to see an athlete recognize when it's time to hang it up. Wish Collie and Laurent would come to that realization.

Surprised they cut Schofield though.

I also had a 2nd round grade on Swope on skills along. I don't mean to offend, but it's not everyday you see a white guy running the same 40 Tavon Austin ran, a 4.34! The man was a very polarizing prospect and had an amazing college career! Hope he becomes a WR coach or something and stays close to the sport.

Even without the knowledge of his concussion history, I had him pegged as a 5th rounder tops. Don't like what I saw at all as a prospect.

At the same time, it didn't really translate the same way. Austin was much faster on film.
