Players are signing all around him

Offset language being the key to most deals.

Question is when does he sign? and if it takes a while, does it effect our OL at all?

and discuss...

He'll get in soon - I don't think any big deal will happen because of this. They're squabbling over the guaranteed part of the contract - which is about all they can argue about.

WHY is it taking so long? As pointed out others around him are signed and it is a slotted system now, this should not be taking so long.

Mingo at 6 is done

So that is the ceiling.

Graves waited for the picks to get slotted, maybe it is Bidwell doing it, wanting not to overpay.

A few hundred K is a few hundred K, i can understand that.

I'm surprised though that he is 1 of only 5 draftees not to sign

I understand with the moves today happening(though he should have signed already) but the news tomorrow should be Cards agree to terms with Cooper. Who is running this place Rod Graves?

I could be completely wrong but perhaps it's Cooper's agent that is delaying the deal. Perhaps he wanted to wait until the #6 pick and #8 pick were signed so the Cardinal's couldn't short change Cooper because he plays a lower value position. It shouldn't make a big deal because the contracts are pretty much slotted for every pick but several years ago, this is the kind of stuff that would happen.

It could also be due to the language in the contract. ie: Mathieu having to take drug tests.

OK this is getting stupid - these guys are dug-in over the smallest of issues. From what I've heard both sides won't budge over some language that would give Cooper the ability to double-dip if he was to part ways with the Cardinals before the rookie contract is up.

That is ridiculous - there's a very low chance that he will get cut before his rookie contract is up. The agent is being a <fill in the blank> and the Card's management is acting stubborn in response.

Kent Somers ‏@kentsomers
#azcardinals aren't likely to budge on offset language with Cooper. No one in org has ever had that type of deal, I'm told

From my understanding of what he wants would make sure he got all his money from his rookie contract even if he was cut early and if he was cut early it would let him go get another contract from another team why still getting the money from his rookie deal from Arizona. Like double-dipping

That is my understanding of the deal he wants. But that just what I have read. Can't say that is for sure what is going on.

I myself see this type of deal as a way to get off a team I did not want to play for but still get the money.

There are also rumors that Cooper wants his deal to be 100% guaranteed, much like the deal Eric Fisher just signed.

This is just a theory but I think Keim does not want to appear weak when he negotiates with agents. He is insisting on offset language so that he can establish dominancy with these agents when they come to the negotiating table and that he will not back down from that. Time will tell who caves in, but that is what I am thinking, it is all just a power play and Keim wants to set the tone with negotiations for the future.
