I have always been a big Wharton fan although he was vastly overpaid (imagine that, Hurney) while in Carolina. Wharton could provide the stability the Panthers need on the inside. Health is an issue, though... nonetheless, he knows the system and players... hope this works out.

The first 2 years of his big deal he was actually playing extremely well (it was right when we moved to the power blocking), but then his play just fell off so much. I'd be okay with him, but I don't want to see him on the field, especially at RG.

I'd prefer him over anyone on the roster right now. The right side of the Panthers line is garbage. It's the one position the Panthers didn't address. The front office is going to have to take a long look in the next season or two to bolster the line...

Yeah, his play really declined, but I can't imagine he would be any more useless than Geoff Hangartner and it is hard to imagine Edmund Kugbila being ready to start this season.

Would be okay with this, however, because we aren't really on the verge of going deep into the playoffs, I don't really want to take development time from somebody else...but he might still be better than them.

Laughing I know, I know, can't count any team out before the season even starts, but I don't see them, right this moment, being able make that run. (Maybe that's what they're waiting for - to be counted out).

I wouldn't be against it. Another veteran presence to help out the young guys.

On the right contract then yeah, sounds like a good move in terms of bith short-term gain and long-term gain (steadying influence over younger players as they develop).

I'd welcome Wharton back to Carolina. IMO he can be better than hangartner and at the very least he can mentor the young guys. Guard is a big ? mark for us and competition is a good thing and that's what Wharton would bring.
