Quote:
Chris Cooley will retire from the NFL and join the Washington Redskins' radio broadcasts as an analyst, according to a person familiar with the situation.

An official announcement of Cooley's hiring as an analyst is to come later Monday, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the news had not yet been made public.

According to the person with knowledge of the situation, Cooley will not replace former analyst Sam Huff on the team's radio broadcasts. Instead, Cooley will provide analysis periodically throughout games. Huff retired this offseason after 38 years on the team's radio broadcasts. He teamed with fellow analyst Sonny Jurgensen beginning in 1981.

Sad to see him go. Best of luck to him at his new role.

Not exactly replacing Huff for now, but it could lead to that in the future.

And he still gets to be with his Redskins family every Sunday!!

I am just glad that he was able to be on a playoff team for his last year. For someone that is a true Redskin, Cooley is it.

Glad he retired as a Redskin.

I have a feeling Doc Walker is going to move into the booth and Cooley will take his sideline gig.

I loved Sonny Sam and Frank, but have felt for a while that it's time to move on to the younger generation of players. Cooley and Doc would be a great pairing in the booth in the future.

It's too bad Riggo and the Red Zebera Radio station left on such bad terms, because Riggo and Doc in the booth and Cooley on the field would be so much fun that I'd have to start syncing the games with the radio more often.

I feel the same way and was thinking that yesterday. Doc would be good in the booth and maybe they'll use Cooley on the sidelines or some how.

Unless something had changed recently, interesting little tidbit: while Cooley is getting involved with the radio broadcast, he has not filed his retirement papers with the league. Yet. It seems he's hoping for one more shot if someone gets hurt.

This might just be training camp numbering. I cannot see him wearing 47 for too long, he might jump down to the 30's or 20's if it opens up, like Royster getting cut.

27 is open and 25, 22, and possibly 29 might all be open at the end of training camp or start of preseason. Just throwing that out there.
