Lots of conflicting reports out there about the prospects of Jimmy Haslam being forced to sell the Browns. This thread is to take the forum pulse.

What does your gut tell you? Will Jimmy Haslam be the owner of the Browns going forward?

No idea

Because it's Cleveland, he will end up in jail.

I went with "stay".

I have no idea why, lack of knowledge I suppose.

I'm not the biggest Jimmy supporter, because of what I think motivates him, which is $$$$. FYI that opinion was made prior to the scandal.

I don't however, want to start over again. I know we have great coordinators, and as long as Chud isn't Romeoesque with mismanaging play clocks, challenges, timeouts and the end of half's, I think his coordinators will make his job easy.

Of course he will not own the BROWNS forever so the ?? is when will he sell/not be the owner. After the system plays out what will be. Either he wins or loses, that's how this plays out. If he wins he will keep the team, if not some-one(not family) will become owner. Odds say with-in 2 years new owner.

At this point I say he stays...

But given the situation the NFL owners have already put out feelers for interested buyers for a quick sale if things take a turn for the worse.

Billionaires don't go to jail in this country.

I am going to go with forced to sell to someone in his family.

Whether he serves time in jail is irrelevant...pleading to or being convicted of a federal crime will be enough to trigger league action to remove him from the driver's seat, although perhaps not so much as to compromise the investment.

True, but if we're looking at legal issues, isn't that considered a "technicality?" Wink Laughing Wink

My thoughts exactly. He will worm his way out of this. Which for the Browns is good.

But i still think he should do time.

So, that being the case, does it serve the rest of the owners better if Haslam does get forced out, so the League's aligned organizations can act as if they represent exemplary standards for NFL ownership, as opposed to if he gets to keep the team, owners might otherwise face investigation into their other business ventures?

I think it's going to be up to the rest of the owners. Not saying there will be an official "sit down" among them, but I do believe the other owners are eyeballing this situation.

I can't lie, I want him to stay. Anybody making that kind of money is looping all kinds of holes anyway, so it's not news to me what Pilot/Flying J is being investigated for. I LOVE that he bought OUR team. He WANTED the Browns.

We will know sooner than later. Now before a grand jury:

Apparently so was Jimmy Very Happy

One other thing. I guess I was born yesterday or something, but I can not understand how it would be possible for the NFL to force Jimmy to sell the team...........to someone in his family. Just something about that strikes me as "what the hell", ya know.

I don't get how the NFL would see that as a good thing as opposed to just having him sell the team to an outsider.
