Hello there Jags Nation!

I am getting ready for my league's fantasy draft. On paper, it looks like you have a strong backfield. ESPN has Yeldon listed as your top back. I recall Robinson had a good year last year as well. Is Gerhart going to be a goal line specialist? Is it going to RB by committee this season or is one back going to be a bell-cow? In your expert opinions, which Jags RBs should I be looking for in the draft? Is it worth drafting a Jags RB in the top 30 or 40?

I wouldn't trust any of them on a week-to-week basis to be honest. It will be a committee to begin the year. Denard isn't an every down back, neither is Toby, and Yeldon is unproven. If Yeldon is what we hope then by week 6 or so I guess he should be getting the majority of the snaps. I'd take a late round flyer on him for sure. Renard will probably have a coupe weeks where he's highly productive, but it will be sporadic and nothing to bank on.

Yeldon will be taken long before a late round flyer though

I know, I just wouldn't take him that high personally, especially since his production at the very least will be artificially capped to start the season.

Draft Tyson Alualu. He's going to vulture some goal-line carries at FB. Cool Cool Cool

Really though, it's so hard to say what the Jaguars backfield is going to look like this year. It certainly appears the staff want Yeldon to be a real "bell cow" for the team at some point...but he's a completely unproven rookie, and he got banged up early so we haven't even really seem what he can do yet. Supposed to play this week, so we'll see how that goes and probably have a bit better idea. So...if the staff have their way, Yeldon should provide some value...but it remains to be seen if that will play out, and how long it will take to come together.

I think, like Suzuka said above...Denard is probably going to have certain weeks where he breaks a big run or two and posts some numbers, but it's probably going to be completely unreliable and unpredictable. They'll probably keep him involved, but he's likely to have a reduced workload compared to last year...where he was already wildly inconsistent in terms of "fantasy results" at least.

Toby is probably going to take a back seat. I suppose there's a possibility that he'll steal away some goal-line work, but that's probably gonna be his only remote shot at any productivity (that or injuries). He's not exactly a guy who provides a big home-run threat from anywhere outside the redzone. Laughing

Also have to keep in mind that our O-Line may still be a bit of a work in progress. They made some real upgrades to the unit that are looking promising so far...but it still doesn't look likely to be a dominant group, and it may well take some time to get a bit of chemistry going with whatever the final 5 end up being. So that could hurt any of our RBs value unless they really surprise in a good way.
