Fine with the move, though I would much rather see them wait to see if he can stay healthy for an entire season.

I agree with this move. If we wait until the end of the year and he stays healthy and breaks out, we might not be able to afford him. It's a risk worth taking to sign him to a new deal now.

I could see there being some performance clauses he'd have to reach to get some of the bonuses in the contract as a means to protect the team from paying a large sum of money to a guy with an injury history.

That said, I'm happy to see a deal in the works.

I wouldn't get too excited here. The source for Rotoworld is this article.

Tim McMahon wrote:
Future forecast: Look for Lee to get a long-term contract extension before the beginning of the season. The Cowboys are looking for him to be a leader of this defense for a long time.

Tim McMahon's conjectures don't equal fact. That's a difficult concept for Rotoworld.

I was golfing today and saw it, thought I would post. if it happens great but I agree with Des that it should have clauses to help with injuries and such.

I like Sean Lee, but what happens if we give him a sizeable contract now, and he's out for most of the season again? These are the kind of terrible decisions that keep us at 8-8 every year.

We've been sensible with our contracts the past 2 years. I'm confident they will structure a reasonable contract. Sean Lee himself didn't ever sound like who lives for the next paycheck until he proves himself he is worth such a huge contract.

I think whatever alcohol you're drinking took effect during the 3rd sentence. I almost had a stroke trying to decipher it.

I think we should lock up Dez really soon. If he plays the way he did last 8 games all yr this yr we will have to pay him Calvin Johnson money. Right now he will still cost a ton but maybe this could save us some cash.

You think that he and his agent don't know that? They're not gonna take a low ball offer now.

Based on what? His potential, 40 time, or the fact that Kiffin says he should be a perfect fit? If Leary plays decent for 3 games, are you guys gonna be talking about extending him? I sincerely hope Lee and Carter's injury problems are behind them, but I'm not sold on it, until I see more on the field production.

Bruce Carter was better than "decent" when healthy last year.
