I am intrigued by your third receiver situation, how much does your offense use the slot guy?

We use three-wide sets less than the rest of the league. In terms of number of targets, the expectation should be WR1-TE1-WR2-TE2-RB1-WR3. Historically, WR3 has gotten a lot of targets only due to injuries and in 2010 when Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones were technically splitting time at WR2.

Another round of updates.

WR Maehl & TE Supernaw off the board, T Menkin on it.

QB roster battle is over with McGee clearly reduced to fodder for the 4th preseason game. Of course, Rex Grossman made the roster in a 4th preseason game, so its not impossible. Keenum clearly has an opportunity this week to seize the #2 gig.

RB is certainly getting interesting and I'm not going to be shocked one bit to see us open the season with 4 RBs until we are comfortable with Arian. Cierre Wood is the favorite right now, but I still have a feeling Deji Karim could make this roster as a special teamer with Dennis Johnson passed thru to the Practice Squad.

WR is likely to be firmed up with Posey looking like he'll start practicing soon eliminating his PUP eligibility. I don't see any way Bonner makes this roster based on some camp practices and EZ might be ahead of him regardless. At best he'll be be slid to the practice squad which I don't think will be difficult since we seemed to be the only ones interested in drafting him. A very puzzling pick.

TE is set, although I haven't heard much about any of them.

O-Line is going to be an interesting one to watch and I may just eliminate the position distinctions as guys like Quessenberry, Menkin and others will likely see time at both tackle and guard. If Brennan Williams doesn't get in there soon we may be looking at a redshirt season as it would be pretty dangerous to roll with only 7 healthy lineman with Smith and Williams inactive. Gardner and Menkin have a legit shot at a spot since both can play T/G as well but I suspect they are both close to burning their PS eligibility.

Updated for Cuts

McGee - QB
Graham - RB
Boren - FB
Schlitz - TE
Collins - G
Mondek - T

Activated Posey from PUP

Pretty much ready to give Yates the backup QB gig, but will let 4th PS game make it official.

Also thinking Ben Jones has played his way out of consideration for backing up Wade Smith and suspect Quess gets the start if Wade can't go. Jones is simply brutal in pass protection.

I sure wish we had ANYONE capable of stepping in for swinging gate Newton at RT. At what point do we throw in the towel on this guy who flashed during PRACTICE in 2011 and has stunk it up in actual games ever since. I think there is some pride at work here since they cut a popular player in Winston to give him a spot (and to pay Arian, Matt, and Duane). We pay him that 7th round salary so no need to cut him as he's decent depth, but I'm ready to see Harris keep the starting spot warm until Williams is healthy enough to take a crack at it.

I don't see any surprises left on this side of the ball.

Yates is #2, Keenum #3

Karim is #3 RB, Wood and DJ competing for Practice Squad call backs

Bonner an IR or PS stash, Ez and Cruse competing for PS

Williams, Gardner, Menkin competing for 4th T spot with one an IR stash and Gardner/Menkin limited PS eligibility left.

Clutts is a bit of a luxury, so I could see us ditching him for a #4 RB or extra lineman.

Updated to reflect Dennis Johnson's bubble bursting. 50/50 shot he returns to the practice squad, but I'm betting Cierre Wood is kept on the 53, but will be a weekly inactive, so DJ would viewed be more as insurance as a kick returner than in development as a RB. It's entirely possible we keep 4 RBs with Karim as a special teamer, costing Clutts a spot. I don't see Alan Bonner and DJ both making the PS, but Cruse showed much more than Bonner as a WR. This is a shell game...

Of the Texans' last 7 moves, I expect a few to be players placed on IR. I expect rookie OT Brennan Williams (knee) will be one of them.

Still a few cuts to go, but looking like...

Texans keep 4 RBs - Deji Karim and Cierre Wood both make it!
Andrew Gardner wins the 4th T job.
Cody White makes it as 5th G and backup C (almost makes me miss Antoine Caldwell - who just got cut by Buffalo BTW)

Updated. Sorry, I like mine better as it has the entire process THIS offseason, not last season.
