Quote:
Could the Raiders have produced a more optimistic offseason storyline if they had lucked into the quarterback they originally were targeting in the draft? According to Les Pasquarelli of the National Football Post, the Raiders had planned to "jump on" Matt Barkley with their fourth-round pick only to watch the Philadelphia Eagles snare the USC quarterback earlier in the round. Tyler Wilson then joined the Raiders as their "fallback option."

Interesting, but of course just rumours and speculation. If we were on the clock, and both Barkley and Wilson were available with our pick, who would you honestly have preferred? Are you content with Wilson as our potential QBOTF?

I read something that Wilson was our guy even if Barkley was still there. Is this ESPN just trying to make up a storyline?

We've said that all along. But there were rumors on day 3 that we were gonna jump on Barkley if he was there. Neither would surprise me, and I'd be fine with either being true.

The vast majority of people here certainly aren't going to say Barkley now.

Thats why I said "who would you honestly have preferred". If they say Wilson just because he is in Oakland now, thats a lame answer.

It doesn't matter neither one of them is a franchise QB just role players. They both need a strong supporting cast to win.

That's interesting if true. By the looks of it, we may have gotten the better end of the deal. But in all honestly it's too early to tell.

I was shocked Wilson was even available, a lot of people had him as the best QB of the group. I had him right behind Geno but I didn't personally want Geno after the reports on his attitude and what not.

Problem is I don't like him more than some of the QB's currently in the NCAA. If we had any other GM I'd be worried but the Packers took a QB early when they still had Rodgers.

I wanted nothing to do with Barkley. Doesn't have an NFL arm, its that simple.

He touched Dennis Allen's seat before the game.

He doesn't have the arm to make every throw but I think he can still be successful in this league doing what he does best.

I really think that there is no point to argue\think about it...

Yeah Barkley could have been higher on our Big Board, but we got Wilson in the end...

The important thing IMO is that they felt pretty good, strong about Wilson too. We needed help almost everywhere, so they had to had high hopes for the kid.
Ideally he will be able to sit behind Flynn for a year or 2 and he will have time to forget his bad 2012 habits...
If they can break him down to the level where he finished 2011 and build on that he could be a pretty good starting QB IMO in 2 years time...

I'm a fan of both and I think both can find success in the NFL but I do believe both need to be in the right system with playmakers around them. Kind of like Dalton in Cincinnati.
