Don't need the stadium, we still have a perfectly good dome.

I couldn't care less about the SB coming back to Atlanta.

I along with everyone of you won't be going to the Superbowl if it comes.

Sounds like your brainwashed by Kasim Reed and Blank and blinded by the bling.

Economic impact?

Over rated when you factor in the possible loss of conventions moving because the hotels are the most expensive in the SE.

Let Blank pay for it all. Then yes, let him build it.

It's nothing new, the filthy rich and politicians got their fat fingers in the economy wasting our money and dodging taxes.

They do not even want the citizens of Atlanta to vote on it.
Trust them they say.

Rule #1, never trust corporations and politicians.
Just don't do it. You will get bent over.

Speaking of bent over, the new proposed stadium even looks like a giant sphincter.

... and lets see what shape all that glass is in with 10 years of that Georgia sun beating it up.

We have a perfectly good dome!!

obviously you don't know much about building materials. there's a new type of plexiglass that is heat, sun and weather resistant beyond anything you've ever seen.

There are a few things I would like to pick apart in this.

We do need the new stadium. The Dome will be approaching 30 when the new one is finished.

You CAN'T speak for every one of us when it comes to the Super Bowl, as I WILL be buying tickets to it.

The new tax WON'T lose ATL many conventions as the increase isn't very high, and the airport along with the fact that Atlanta is the premier location in the SE for these events will keep them coming.

When it comes to funding, Blank practically is paying for it all. He and the NFL are footing 800 million of the 1 billion.

I agree that you can't trust politicians, but good businessmen know how NOT to screw up the economy. That's what makes them good businessmen.

And if we're going to insult the way a stadium looks, I may as well say the superdome looks like a giant boob.

And like Scar said, they have the architectural technology to pull it off.

Economic impact is a huge factor

Super Bowl brings in 150-200 million a game
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505123_162-57566434/as-economic-boost-super-bowl-underwhelms/

SEC Championship game has generated over 700 million in revenue for the city since 2000. New facility ensures it stays in Atlanta.
http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/gatorbytes/2011/02/27/sec-championship-game-to-stay-in-atlanta-through-2017/

Chic Fil A Bowl generated 28 million in 2012, and with a new stadium, the chances that the city get the College Football Championship increases, and that means even more. Not counting the semi-final games in other years.
http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2013/02/22/chick-fil-a-bowl-events-had-96m-impact.html

Sam article, the two season beginning games in the Dome brought in 67 million dollars, and thats with teams like North Carolina State in the games. New stadium will bring in more interest from teams across the nation with bigger fan bases. Imagine how much money a team like Notre Dame, USC, or Ohio State could bring in.

70 million is the estimated amount that the city brought in for this years Final Four
http://businessofcollegesports.com/2013/04/05/final-four-pumps-millions-into-atlanta-economy/

IF the Dome was kept, then it would cost a estimated 400 million to renovate it, not counting 200 million for a retractable roof, nor the high yearly costs of maintaining the old building.
http://www.politifact.com/georgia/statements/2013/mar/08/kasim-reed/would-new-stadium-be-cheaper-dome-rehab-depends/

A new stadium was a no brainer.

Oh and the 1% Hotel Tax that is being complained about...

You do realize that it is already in place. It has been in place by the city for decades. It was just renewed and all monies from the tax in the next few years will party go for the building of the new staduim. It will not effect any tourism, nor will it keep any conferences from coming to Atlanta. You do realize that 1% of a nightly $100 hotel stay is only $1. That $1 isnt keeping people away.

The hotel tax is used all across the country, not just Atlanta. Its a very smart business model for cities.

1. Lease of the GA Dome expires soon.

2. This is just dumb. No one cares what YOU want. The city will benefit greatly from having Super Bowls come to the city. Not even mentioning the multiple other things this will bring. (Bowl games, possible MLS team)

3. The rest of this is just crap that you have a problem with, which seems to go beyond the realm of football or the stadium. If you have a problem with politicians, economics whatever, take that somewhere else. It has no business here.

AJC is reporting that the south side plan isn't going to happen, and the New Falcons Stadium is likely going to be built on the North site.

Could someone from the Atlanta area explain the pros and cons of sites? I've only been to the city once.

From the layout design I thought it would be slightly crowded. Anyway, I've never been to ATL so idk.

the north site is better for parking and actually putting a stadium up.

I guess the reason the stadium site is moving has something to do with the near by churches.

the state likes the south site better. but the Falcons like the north site better. the state would also have to purchase multiple lots on the south site. where the north site is 100% under state cojntrol.
