I actually think we could cut him even during camp this year.

I was starting to think that too, but the secondary was one of the worst parts of the team so i figured they would keep all the CB's for depth

I was gonna say, please do. While Rogers isn't elite, he's top 20 which you guys need as secondary doesn't look stellar right now, at least compared to the rest of your team.

It depends, but if Asomugha/Culliver out play him in camp, maybe he gets cut due to his contract.

Definitely not happening. He's still Fangio's top choice to cover the slot and we'll likely be playing nickle just as much as last season.

We got this guy named Tarell Brown who's pretty good, too, FYI.

In no order our top Cb's are Tarrell Brown, Chris Culliver, Carlos Rogers, and Nnamdi Asomugah. I dont want to raise the chance of playing Tramaine Brock or perrish cox at cornerback.

If we let go of Rogers, one major injury and Brock/Cox would be our #3 and #4 Cb's. I know injuries happen, but i REALLY don't want to see them this season.

Good signing here by the 49ers, have always liked Smith as a player.

I know his brother from another mother Aldon Smith is cheering. When Justin Smith is healthy Aldon is free to just go into beast mode. You could tell Aldon missed Justin towards the end of the season when he was putting goose eggs sack numbers.

Aldon was injured towards the end of the season, and required surgery for a torn labrum in the off-season.

For those of you interested in the numbers. This was from oldman9er in the 49er forum.

The 49ers are now $6.423 million under the salary cap after Smith's two-year extension through the 2015 season. Smith's extension averages $4.35 million per season over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the new years added to the deal. As part of the deal, Smith's scheduled $8 million salary for 2013 was converted to a $6.56 million signing bonus, a $940,000 base salary with a $500,000 workout bonus and a $100,000 roster bonus. Under the new deal, he is scheduled to earn $8.1 million this season. The conversion of salary to signing bonus moved Smith's cap figure from $8 million to $3.726 million, the source said. He is scheduled to earn $4.55 million in 2014 with a $3.15 million salary and a $1.4 million roster bonus. In 2015, he is scheduled to receive $2.65 million in base salary with a $1.4 million roster bonus.

Pretty team friendly here. But Smith obviously got what he wanted so win/win.

But his cap charge is about 6 mil per year. So while he receives 8.7 mil in payments he'll count for about 12.5 mil over 2 years in cap space.

That's still a huge bargain.
