I love that he seems to like the defense, and I do think we will be much better this year with the guys we added, and with the addition of Horton - whom I really like--- I just hope he is a guy that backs him self up with his play on the field. _________________

Our defense has far too many question marks at this point.
-can Kruger prove he was worth the money and continue producing
-will DQwell show he can play at a high level in a 34
-will Robertson be able to transition
-can Sheard handle coverage responsibilities
-will we have a player worthy of the #2 cb spot
-can Gipson handle the starting FS gig
-can Ward stay healthy all year
-will Rubin and Taylor flourish in their new roles
A lot of potential but a lot of unknown. I feel better about this group knowing Horton is the DC but I think it's going to take some time before they start banging on all cylinders. _________________

Fair point
Though I do think we are getting ahead of ourselves.
What worries me is this...
It's gonna take a little time for it to come together.
We won't come out of the gate on fire defensively
I think somewhere in the middle of the season we could play well, but I fully expect Horton to take a HC job next season. _________________

All valid points, I just think Horton doesn't over complicate things in his defense. He lets the players let their talent take over and not over think things _________________ 2013 Joe Blackburn HOF Award Recipient |

This guy needs to shut up period.
He is a college lb that has 5 sacks against a bunch of grocery store managers
in hotel clerks.
He is the the 6th overall pick that is currently on the second string of a last place team. |

Que?
1. The SEC is top talent
2. He didn't say anything that I dislike
3. I wouldn't call him second string. He will have plenty of snaps and should be a huge contributor. _________________

Nothing wrong with having confidence. It's not like he's predicting a 20+ sac season and 5 super bowls. _________________

I like Mingo's confidence. Of course he's not going to say the defense isn't going to be good. He might genuinely feel that Cleveland's D will be the best, but that's because he's never played with other professional defenders around the league. When he's coming from the college ranks to a pro team, of course the talent around him is going to seem a lot better.
Anyway, I'm really curious to see how Cleveland's defense plays this year. There's a good amount of talent, but there's a lot of unproven talent. There's players who have proven to be good in the 4-3, but they haven't proven to be successful yet in the 3-4. There's also some obvious holes on defense, like at #2 CB, FS, ILB, but there's players at those positions who could prove to be legitimate starters but it's far from a sure thing.
If I had to guess, I would say the Browns likely finish around the middle of the pact statistically this year. I think the defense will have some really good games but they'll also have some games where they struggle somewhat. It's not realistic to expect them to play well every game when you consider the change in scheme and the fact that there's a lot of youth and inexperience on the team. _________________ Cleveland Browns Forum Hall of Fame Inductee |

I like it. I want a team of players that can talk the smack. We too often go for the nice guys and that hasn't done much.
Maybe we should hook up Mingo with Ray Lewis. Imagine the rep he would get if he "allegedly" killed someone. _________________ “From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.” -- J R R Tolkien LOTR |

I love guys who can talk some smack but back it up. Thats called confidence.
Talking smack and having nothing to back it up to be is being cocky. To me cocky is the feeling you get before you get hit in the mouth.
I would love it if he was saying this after a full padded team sessions or the defense looked good in a preseason, giving some reason to his high confidence in the defense.
I would love a team full of smack talkers who can back it up...
you talk smack and than get your whooped just makes you look stupid |
