According to an NFL source, barring an unlikely contract restructure or trade, the Packers will be parting ways with Bishop, who missed all of last season with a ruptured hamstring tendon suffered in the Aug. 9 preseason opener at San Diego.

That's too bad, was always a fan of his. I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere. Hopefully the Falcons.

If he's healthy he should be a real solid pickup for some team but I imagine he can't be in great shape if they are releasing him now. I assume he wouldn't restructure but still, must have some issues left.

Kinda strange the Packers prefer to get rid of Bishop over A.J. Hawk, yes Hawk took some pay-cut this off-season but Bishop is only making $3.464 million which in my opinion is only slightly above what he's worth.

there's no way this isn't medical related. otherwise the timing would be suspect to say the least

That would be logically that it might be medical but why then would they try and restructure? If it was purely medical, they wouldn't even attempt a restructure. And in which case, I will be very upset if Bishop is healthy and not a Packer in 2013.

And just touched based with Desmond Bishop (@Desbishop55). Linebacker says he is "completely" healthy. #packers

Bishop also indicated there's still a possibility he could be back with the #Packers. Time will tell. There's a logjam.

Think it's safe to say that this is in fact money related and I'm at a loss for words. He's set to make less then $4 million this year and we aren't hard up for cap space.

EDIT: Just to add, a fellow Packer fan here pointed out that it may be the case of him being healthy but never being able to regain his speed and explosiveness after a complete hamstring tear. Could be the case because it does make sense.

What's your LB depth like? Is there someone capable enough to take his job?

They did decide to pay Brad Jones "starter money" this offseason, and Hawk is a solid player, even if he never quite lived up to expectations of a 5th overall pick.

Plus the coaches are high on Terrell Manning. He'll be going into his second year. Had little impact last year but was mainly due to fighting through an illness during TC and the preseason so he was behind the curve as a rookie.
