Was a 4th round pick last season but has off-the-field issues.

Thank goodness for Billy Spikes. How else would I know that we signed someone that won't make the team.

I don't know man. Hes a good player on the field, off the field stuff worries me and I dont think Miami is comfortable with Jorvorskie. They brought in now 3 FBs

I actually liked what I saw from this guy coming out of college. If he gets his stuff together, he could be an upgrade over Clay. If not, then it doesn't cost us anything.

I also liked him coming out. A replica of Clay in play style. Still don't expect him to make the team anyhow, might be here to compete at FB or to push our young TEs

Arrested twice this offseason. Both times drunk. Regardless of whether he makes the team, I hope he gets some help.

I'm with WB56, I don't think the guy makes the team.
Besides, I've got hopes that Clay will be the ultimate #2 TE/ Utility extraordinaire.

Can't have too many of those guys.

Got a buddy here from Chi who just raves about this kids talent on the field.
I took a look at his combine footage & clearly he moves like a "Playmaking" TE.

So were looking at:
Sims Keller Clay Rodriguez battling for 3 positions.

We've never had this significant a talent level competeing for such a pivotal position in a WC Offense.

EDIT - I forgot to include M. Egnew in that Grp, my bad.

Good news

With the name 'Rodriguez', you know Stephen Ross is excited to have that demographic play on board. He's been trying to attract Latina fans since he took over the team- Remember who he brought along with him?

Realistically, he'll make the team. He's a talented player that's versatile.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you whom of the 5 candidates gets cut if my life depended on it.

* Keller is coming back from a major injury and if resigned would cost alot.
* Egnew is a freak of an athlete whom struggled with fundamental blocking.
* Rodriguez is a bit undersized & comes with baggage.
* Sims is rookie up against 4 Vets/Semi Vets
* Clay (have no clue) as I haven't seen him make a handful of catches when rarely on the field.

An educated guess tells me that the best 2 "All Around guys" will stay & #3 will have to platoon as
a back up blocking FB/STs player.

But I've been wrong before, what I do know is what I've been saying since last yr during this time...
"The West Coast System places a much higher value on pass catching TEs than a conventional
Power Running team".

I am thrilled that we are employing a highest level of competition at TE I've ever seen in 40 yrs of being a Phin Fan. I fully expect to see a significant improvement at the position.

I could see either Clay or Rodriguez winning the FB/H-back job.

So does that make Keller & Sims the TE tandem & Egnew getting cut ?

The level of competition is high because they are all equally mediocre. In the past we've had somewhat-of stand-outs, IE Keith Jackson, Ferrell Edmunds, Randy McMichael...

That's another way to look at it. Although I don't think Keller is mediocre. The guy has proven playing behind a terrible QB to be a very reliable target that has torched Miami a few times. The question with him is whether he is healthy. And I think Sims and Rodriguez and even Egnew are all guys with potential to be great. I wouldn't put them in the mediocre category at all. I would put them all in the unknown category with loads of potential. They could all amount to nothing. But at least we are rolling a lot of dice between an injured proven player, and 3 other guys with the potential to be great.

Think of it like you are gambling. The more dice you have the greater your chances of rolling a 5 or a 6. But it isn't a guarantee. Anybody who has played Yahtzee for long enough understands this concept.
