Damn Billy, wasn't this just on twitter like, 4 minutes ago? You must work at Jimmy Johns.

I like it. His health is a big concern, but he instantly becomes our best TE. As long as his knee holds up he could solidify that position.

EDIT:

No one is sure if he signed, or if he will just be a mini camp try out this week. Regardless, still a very intriguing move.

Don't know if he's healthy, but this is an excellent signing if he is.

According to his interview on NFL AM 2 months ago he is healthy. He walked away last season due to his situation. Seattle cut him the day after most teams made their last cutdowns on their roster, because he didn't want to redo his contract. Then he signed with NE and played one game, but he knew he wasn't going to get a lot of opportunities there when Gronk and Hernandez were both healthy. Plus his wife was pregnant with their second child and he didn't want to uproot them again. So he walked away. But from all accounts he is ready to go now. Health is a concern, but this is very low risk. Try him out and see what he can potentially give us, and then either say bye or sign him to a one year deal. He instantly is our best TE though.

But they weren't. Hernandez missed the one game that Winslow did play plus the next two. Winslow was still behind Hoomanawanui and Fells, making him the #4 TE even when Hernandez was hurt.

You just made my point stronger. Due to the Pats TE depth and the fact all of those guys are well versed in that offense, whereas Kellen came into it after the season already started, that would make it even harder for him to get opportunities. It can be tough for a free agent to come in and try to contribute to an offense that already has established guys in the rotation. I don't blame him for walking away to be with his family. Like I said before, he has stated he is focused on football for this season and he is healthy. He wants to get back in the game, and he has a wonderful opportunity to do so with our try out.

We have an unimpressive Jeff Cumberland, and Hayden Smith whose never played football before. K2 is a very solid pickup and if 100% is easily the best TE on the roster. Hopefully he impresses. We need all the weapons we can get especially if Nacho Libre is still playing QB.

Mike Sims-Walker too.

He had 869 receiving yards in 2009.

Great pick up. We needed a TE . Low risk high reward situation here. If he is healthy, he will make the team with no doubt. He could be perfect for Marty's scheme.

I remember I thought Sims-Walker was going to be a great player. I hope he worked on his attitude. He has talent, but his mind was way off.

I with everyone else. These guys both could be starters or be cut by week 1. There is no risk here so you have to bring guys like this in.

I just love the fact we at least have potential in every position on offense.

QB - Geno Smith
Will take time, but could be a good QB.

RB - Ivory, Goodson, and Powell
I can see Ivory putting up probowl like numbers. If Goodson & Powell improve, we could have a 3 headed monster backfield.

FB - Bohanon / Baker
Baker was doing well before his injury. He could be the guy or Bohanon can come in.

WR - Hill & Kerley
If Hill can stay healthy and improve his catching, we are set. Maybe Sims-Walker get his mind right and makes the team. Looks like we have depth at WR going into camp. Kerley, Holmes, Hill, Obomanu, Sims-Walker, Gates, J.White, and Z-Ro.

TE - Winslow Jr & Hayden
Depends on Winslow's health. Marty love passing, so having a TE like him can be great for us. Hearing a lot of good things about Hayden, I'm just waiting to see it.

RT - Austin Howard/Aboushi
Howard had a solid season for his first start. He is young, so he can improve. If not, Aboushi will get a shot.

OG's - Colon, Peterman, Winters, Williams, Vlad
I'm sure we can find solid starters from this group.

Am I the only one who doesn't want us to sign either guy? We won't be a winning team this year. I'd rather see what we have in our guys than sign older, washed up vets. I'd be down for signing someone like Dallas Clark to mentor the younger TE's, but Kellen doesn't come across as the mentoring type of guy. Also, we don't need Sims-Walker. Let's see if younger guys and rookies step up before adding a vet.
