Bad news, Jaguars fans: Goodell told me there’s a good chance the Jags will play TWO “home” games in London very soon.

And then he clarified two games, not two home games. Complete non-story.

We get an away game to help build the brand globally? Sign me up.

Also:

One look at the money that Khan is pumping into the team and the stadium (video board, anyone?), and even our freaking jerseys with the ode to Jacksonville that city's history shows that the team isn't moving anywhere anytime soon.

We've known about 1 home/1 away game for a long time. Khan wants to build a global brand with the team, and being able to make us lose an "away game" alongside our "lost home game" to play in front of a crowd that we're trying to get to buy into our brand makes perfect sense from a business and competitive standpoint.

He could be right and that it's an extra home game and the clarification was per year, but he's screwed up, misquoted and misdiagnosed so much with this "story" that I'm inclined to believe he just read "home game" into what Goodell said rather than it just being an extra game. NYP isn't exactly the most reliable source, and this guy just happens to be the only member of the media to get this new information that it's no longer a home + away, but two home games? Color me shocked if he really did get the info.

Oh.
That's Greg Aiello, a PR man for the NFL.

Also this:

Quote:
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says NFL is going through an internal analysis of whether one team should play two games in London in same year.

And this:

Aiello said no decision has been made and no outcome is being pushed.

Shoddy journalism strikes again.

I guess I'll keep this open for now, but it seems to be more of a case of poor journalism than an actual story.

While I sincerely believe a full time franchise will fail miserably in Europe, I do believe the short-term financial gains for Khan will be too much to pass up when the stadium lease with Jacksonville is coming up.

Unfortunately, when the Jaguars (or whatever their name is at that point) come back to the states, it won't be to Jacksonville.

We still have another 5-7 years of at least a part-time franchise here. I'm going to try and enjoy what we have left.

From an on-field standpoint, it makes sense to play back-to-back weeks there so as not to make it so hard on the players and those who travel with the team for a job. Home/home or home/away makes no difference to me, but Khan stands to make significantly more cash having both be home games. He's mentioned in the past he wants to play two, or as many as four home games over there, so this is his next logical step.

EXACT from Goodell: “If we go to 3 London games, what we’ll likely do is ask Jax to potentially play 2 or ask 3 different teams to host.”

And no mention of home game from Goodell, from the guy who claimed Goodell said home game.. Nor "good chance" for that matter.

And and almost no one out of Jacksonville ever will unless we put forth an effort to make ourselves accessible to them. It's a fantastic business decision. I'm not sure how anyone would be against us playing games to build the brand in front of a crowd that is eventually going to become more accustomed to us and therefore more likely to support us during what likely will be an away game every year. An away game in front of a group that will become increasingly warm towards the Jaguars, that will bring in a lot of revenue? What's not to like?

I'm still confused as to how going to London and getting pummelled is going to help build 'Jags' as a global brand.

I mean, nobody is a 'Washington Generals' fan. Confused They go to see the Globetrotters.

Sad

Hopefully that's just me being pessimistic about it though, and we do end up growing the team's fanbase internationally.

And who am i to rain on that parade i guess...i'm a Canadian Jaguars fan. Laughing

We won't get pummeled forever though. It's kinda like how did anyone become a Jaguars fan when we went 4-12 (2-6 at home) our first season? Even if we're bad, becoming the recurring team over there (home team, in a sense) will gain us fans that end up going to a Jaguars game (or two) every year. People will become a fan of the team they can see every year over the team they get once a decade.

In fact, that's kinda my experience. I live in New York and really started paying attention to the NFL in 95. The Jags had a few games in the market I live in that year to try to get the team exposure. I watched a few games (almost, if not all of which we lost), and became a fan.

I'm just thinking in terms of wins, we stand a better chance to win when we actually play in Jacksonville
