Just because we have cap room doesn't mean we can afford his asking price.

I agree, and I do believe he will sign with us eventually. The FA market was terrible for the players this year. He will have to cave in and take less money to play for a contender like us.

Our 2014 cap situation looks great but we need some space for Matt's contract this year i'd presume. I'm not overly knowledgeable about our cap situation but that'd be my guess. Dont forget Spoon needs an extension after 2014, and Julio might too.

That's typically how huge contacts work...

Update:

Quote:
Flush with nearly $7 million in salary-cap space following Matt Ryan's $103.75 million extension, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff made it clear Tuesday that Seymour is no longer at the top of his priority list.

Dimitroff told Alge Crumpler of WQXI-AM, via The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that the remaining cap space will be saved for injury contingencies and emergencies.

"I know there is a lot of talk about Richard, and Richard is a fine man," Dimitroff said. "There is no more discussion here at this point about having him in here."

Of course, Dimitroff went on to hedge his comments by adding, "Never say never."

The full article is a paragraph or two longer but can be read here.

Not sure I like the idea of completely writing him off. We need D line depth and pass rush abilities. I think the presence or Seymour alone would benefit our edge rushers who need all the help they can get. I believe this is the year for us to go to the big dance and I think we need to make something happen with that remaining money.

We almost NEED to bring him in. We have nothing (but money) to lose there.

Maybe Robertson actually looks really good at camp. Along with Peters looking good, the Falcons may feel that saving money and going with the guys they have is the best option.
