Quote:
Fox Sports South reports the Falcons and free agent DT Richard Seymour are engaged in contract talks.
The Falcons are in win-now mode, and Seymour, at the age of 33, is likely only interested in playing for a contender. The four-time Pro Bowler has also been training in the Atlanta area this offseason, and he went to Georgia. Seymour, at 6-foot-6, 310, would bring some much needed beef to the interior of the Falcons' defensive line. The Falcons are up against the cap, but some money will be freed up in June due to Tyson Clabo's post-June 1 release designation.

Thoughts?

I'm all in for this. The mindset is win now. He can play in 4-3 and 3-4 sets and will definitely help our pass rush both in his play and how he benefits the DE's.

This would be a great signing. Seymour has plenty left in the tank.

Why? He's solid. Not great but certainly worthy of a spot on the team.

Serious, please explain this...

He is definitely not solid, more below average. I wouldn't complain if we cut him. Our depth is pretty thin at DT, so I don't see him getting cut though.

He's also hardly making anything. He has a $715k cap hit.

As for Seymour, I'm okay with it as long as he's cheap.

Exactly. He isnt a bad player either. He was solid at the nose when Peters was out. He should be a starter, but with the way we rotate players, Id rather have him as our 5th tackle instead of an unproven Robinson.

if it comes down to Jerry or Travian Robertson, I'd rather have Travian Robertson.

Agreed, Jerry isn't any worse than Vance. He is a servicable DT and shows flashes of rushing the passer every once and awhile. Def worth keeping and being the 3rd or 4th DT in our rotation we use.

Umenyiora / Seymour / Babineaux / Biermann
Goodman / Peters / Jerry / Winner of TC (Mass, Matt, Map.)

That looks pretty decent. If the contract leaves us 2 million or so of room so we can sign a veteran 4th LBer on top of the cash you need for emergency transactions, that would be great.
