#Raiders restructured QB Matt Flynn's deal to convert much of his $3.25M base salary to a signing bonus. Creates cap room. #Math coming...

Why would the #Raiders need cap room? Well… They had just $179,987 available as of this morning. And draft picks to sign.

#Raiders saved about $1 million with the Matt Flynn restructure. Add that to the $179,987 cap room they had… and now they have more #Math

It doesn't make a difference for him.

Pretty much, I guess. I guess I'm just glad this move happened and helped us with cap space lol.

Honestly, i'm not sure why it had to happen. We're getting 8M in cap room next week. Maybe they're just giving themselves some room just in case an opportunity to add someone arises.

Probably. Though I'm not sure who it would be now that Freeney is gone and Abraham wants hella $$$.

Fine Print: Converted Flynn's contract to one-year voidable deal so the Raiders can jettison him at the conclusion of the 2013 season and still get a compensatory pick. In return the Raiders paid him in advance all under the guise of "creating cap space".

I'm kidding of course . . . . I think.

I haven't read the new CBA, but I was under the impression that a deal couldn't be reworked before a year.

That used to be the case, anyway.

If you cut someone you can't get a compensatory pick for them.

TEAM NEWS: After the restructuring of Matt Flynn's contract, lowering his base-salary saving Oakland roughly $1.25M in cap space, the Raiders are currently $130K under the salary cap after signing DB Charles Woodson. After June 1st, the Raiders will be saving $8M due to making Michael Huff an post-June 1st designation release. Oakland has signed zero of their 10 draft selections at this time, and do not expect any to until after June 2nd.
