Neither Hakeem Nicks nor Victor Cruz was in attendance at Giants OTAs. Tom Coughlin sounded uncertain why Nicks was missing.

The Giants are offering Cruz a contract that's worth nearly $8 million per year after they initially were only willing to pay $7 million a year.

Cruz knows he has to take the contract the Giants are offering or play for the 1-year, $2.879 million first round tender contract he was assigned. Cruz recently agreed to lower his asking price from $10M-$11M a year.

The Giants reportedly view him as a slot receiver which is why they aren't willing to pay him over $10 million a year.

Yeah, he'll be back with the team by late June early July. If not a team needing a wide receiver might swoop in and get him.

Yeaah and Cruz with the dog is hilarious.

Cruz is pretty damn good, i think he can play all over a formation, he makes a ton of critical plays and has seemed to constantly improve week in week out. Why not pay him.

I don't know how long Cruz will hold out, but seems to me that extended holdouts are never a good thing for the player unless he actually gets the contract he wants. I understand why he is doing it, but these holdouts do adversely affect their play on the field during the season after the hold out; especially in regards to conditioning.

Although, considering what happened to Crabtree, I can totally see why a receiver may not want to go through OTA's and camp without a new deal in hand Laughing

They can claim what ever they want is being offered with a "yearly salary". Until that Guaranteed money the Giants are/are not offering is closer to what Cruz's camp wants there will be no deal and rightfully so IMO. I'm interested in seeing exactly how far it goes TBH and gauging everyones reactions on that time period? In years past players like Desean and Wallace were crucified for doing virtually the same thing. Although extremely unlikely I'd love for numerous reasons football related and otherwsie to see what would happen if Cruz took the Vincent Jackson approach and sat for the first 7-10 games like he did with the Chargers??

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6124670

Quote:
Unhappy that he didn't get a long-term deal, Jackson refused to sign a $3,268,000, one-year tender as a restricted free agent. He sat out the first seven games, then reported in time to serve a three-game suspension on the roster exempt list -- he was placed there in a hardball move by Smith. He was on the active roster for the final six games to accrue a season toward unrestricted free agency.

When Jackson hadn't signed the tender by June 15, the Chargers slashed their offer to 110 percent of his 2009 salary, or $583,000. Due to the games he missed, he made less than $300,000 in 2010.

Cruz came off as a guy who wouldn't be "that guy".... Now he just looks like an incredible tool.

I thought there was a quote from him recently stating he'd sign for around $7 Million a year?

Why is he a tool? The Tool in this situation is Hakeem Nicks! Once again the yearly salary means absolutely nothing. It could be 13 million a year offered but if only one year is guaranteed it useless. They are most likely miles apart on the guaranteed portion of his contract which is the only part of his contract that matters in the end. The Giants are scrambling trying to figure out a scenario where they can somehow keep both WR's past 2014. Problem is like in AZ realistically there's no way with Eli, JPP and others already or about to get big contracts as well.
