Brian Urlacher - LB - Free Agent
Free agent MLB Brian Urlacher has retired from the NFL after 13 seasons.
Urlacher, 35 in three days, spent his entire career with the Bears. "Although I could continue playing, I'm not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that's up to my standards," Urlacher wrote in a statement. "When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after a 13-year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear." It's hard to see Urlacher forced out of the game like this, but no team was willing to sign him after his skills declined sharply last season. An injury to a middle linebacker around the league could give Urlacher an opportunity, and he could change his mind. But at this moment, he finishes his career with 1,229 tackles, 41.5 sacks, 22 interceptions, 12 forced fumbles, and eight Pro Bowl selections. He's a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame.

I'm real glad to see this, it would have killed me to see him in a different uniform next year. I wish this would have happened earlier in the offseason so that things would be a little bit more amicable, but regardless this is the right decision for Urlacher.

I’m extremely glad that Brian has taking this step…the worst thing that could have happened is another Olin Kreutz situation where he went into another camp and realised then that it was over…this way he retires with dignity and as a one team guy which is a rarity these days…

He will forever be one of my favourite Bears having been the player who made me a Bears fan and should go down as one of the greatest ever players of this franchise…I wish him health and all the best for the future whatever it may hold.

Maybe Kreutz's experience with New Orleans weighed on Lach's mind a bit.

I don't doubt that Urlacher could still be a contributor on a team, but I'm glad that he is keeping his legacy in mind. Would love to see him with some kind of role on the staff in the next 2-3 years, not sure if it's realistic though.

Bittersweet. He was one of the greats, and I am glad to see he did not stretch out his career and tarnish his legacy with 3-4 poor seasons, just wish he didn't watch his last few games on the sidelines due to an injury.

Glad he didn't sign with anyone else. Guy deserved to end where he began.

One of the greats. I started watching the Bears during his rookie season and he was in part of the reasons I became just a big bears fan. I still remember him dominating mike vike during the 2001 season returning a fumble for a TD and winking at a cheerleader.

Glad he went out like this. It would have been hard to see him in a different uniform. To bad injuries took a toll on him the last couple years, or he might be here now. Great player. How long until he's in Canton?

I'll tell you what...I dont say this often but it was really cool hearing Jerry Angelo speak about Brian on 670 the score.

Brian it was awesome watching you play. Definitely one of the greatest LBs I've ever watched. I cant wait to see you put on that gold jacket and be inducted into the HOF Very Happy
