Good signing. We needed some vet experience. Likely not a lot of money. Even if it is a "retirement tour" of sorts, he's still probably better than our alternatives currently.

Here's hoping he gets #24 back. I've had that thing in my closet for a long time.

Great news. Props to everyone who went to the facility today. That just might have been the difference.

Real reason Woodson signed with the Raiders:

Quote:
Charles Woodson's winery is in Napa where the Raiders have camp. So there's that.

The real reason C-Wood has a winery in Napa is the Raiders.

Glad he came here instead of going to Denver. My old man is happy tonight. Good veteran leadership.

Im really happy he didnt end up on Denver especially after Champ Bailey's comments earlier today.

Also, regardless of age, Woodson is a significant upgrade over whoever the hell was going to play FS for us this season.

This.

No one is expecting him to come in and be a All-Pro, least I hope not. Sad fact is a washed up CWood is better than anyone in our secondary. Its important for a rebuilding team to have guys like him and Carter. Show the young guys how to prepare and what it takes in the class room to succeed on the field.

I've read the argument about how the "mentor" role is overblown in this league. Cant disagree more. Yes, its doubtful that few go around holding the young players hands, going out of their way to show how to do things, or give input. By mentor, I've always thought of it as a guy who knows what to do in the classroom, weight room, ect. Someone for the young guys to see and learn from on what it takes to be successful in this league. CWood isn't going to take players home with him and have all night film study. He shouldnt have too either. But what he can do is show what it takes in the preperation part of the week, be a valued voice in the study room, and I cant think of a better DB than him as an example of how just relaying on your talent alone can only take you so far. Good signing overall.

Im expecting production to be better than Ray Buchannon, but not quite on Rod Woodson level.
