Really tough to do at this point. Some decent players are going to get cut come June 1st (?)and the Raiders should have some decent salary room. DA has said they are looking at the DL. I read some players like Darnell Dockett and Ryan Pickett could become available. Its not far fetched to think the Raiders could be bringing in 2 more potentially starter quality players before TC.

The Josh Cribs signing makes it tough to decide. I want to carry 6 WR's(not including cribbs) and 6 CB's.

I am still not convinced Hanson is our best option in the slot especially with how FA and draft played out. Preferably I would like to see someone else play there and free up a spot on the roster for Chewka assuming he continues to improve. And if T. Jones can at least look decent as a corner by preseason it would be hard to let him go considering he is our best ST player and our 2nd best Gordon is not a lock to make the team either.

I got Jones, Gordan staying on due to special teams play. Jones is our best gunner. Gordan can be utilized as a FB and is a core special teams player as well.

Read in one of the Draft Magazines that Mady could be a Guard or Center so i'll have him as Wiz's backup. Personally he's the one free agent rookies I see making the team.

Changed mine up a few posts.

I keep Shelton Johnson as backup SS, put Brice Butler on PS, also keep Jack Crawford even though that is iffy to me.

I keep Conner Vernon over Brice Butler because he has had more accomplishments and provides another option in the slot.

Just because Brice Butler was drafted doesn't mean they'll keep him look at Nathan Stupar from last years draft he was cut.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Compare the 2 rookie WR's college stats

Brice Butler:

2009 - 20 REC for 292 yards and 2 TD's
2010 - 9 REC for 112 yards and 1 TD
2011 - 12 REC for 150 yards and 0 TD's
2012 - 24 REC for 347 yards and 4 TD's

Conner Vernon:

2009 - 55 REC for 746 yards and 3 TD's
2010 - 73 REC for 973 yards and 4 TD's
2011 - 70 REC for 956 yards and 5 TD's
2012 - 85 REC for 1074 yards and 8 TD's

In my opinion they are a joke. In the last ten years there drafts sucked.

With WR corps with a history of injuries, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Raiders will carry 6 WRs to open the season and former Hillsdale prospect FA WR Andre Holmes makes the roster.

Would anyone be really upset if we went against conventional wisdom and carried 7 WRs this year?

I ask because, as stated earlier in this thread, the Cribbs signing does complicate things a little. He's going to play a lot of WR for us, I do believe.

Moore and Streater appear to be the most likely starters.

Ford is our most dynamic slot option. I wonder just now secure his roster spot is, but I'm hopeful he's retained and has a healthy & productive season.

Criner should be a lock to stick if he's out there working hard and improving.

That leaves us with the size/speed/upside guy in Butler, and early DA favorite Vernon at the bottom of the depth chart. I have a hard time seeing either guy clear waivers and make it to the PS, though I may very well be wrong. I'm guilty of being risk averse when it comes to trying to get a player through waivers and onto the squad. But who here wouldn't like to see us keep both?

We need a reliable set of hands to move the chains. Vernon might actually be that guy sooner rather than later.

We need all the help we can get in the downfield department. Butler is more of a developmental prospect than Vernon, but could turn out to be a decent player given time.

With no true #1 WR, and one could argue the lack of a quality #2, would hanging onto all of these guys in the hopes that one of them pans out make sense?

I say all this knowing that it's still May, and half of these guys could go into complete suck-n-fail mode by the time cut-down day arrives. But in terms of trying to make an early roster prediction, WR is the position I'm having the hardest time trimming down.

Ya the tough ones for me are WR and CB. ST will likely determine who we keep. Personally I would rather keep only one FB which free's up a spot and a TE can fill that backup FB role. Personally I would prefer to move on from Hanson assuming Chewka continues to improve not sure if we will though. I think most of our CB's can play the slot and Hanson isn't getting any faster. Jones is our best ST defender currently and Gordon who is second best isn't a lock either.

Streater
Moore
Ford
Criner
Butler
Vernon
Cribbs

Porter
Jenkins
Hayden
Adams
Chekwa
Jones

I don't remember Ford playing the slot.

Not exactly related to this thread, but I didn't think this was worth its own and this is the best fit:

Quote:
Here are the expected cap hits of the Raiders rookies:

1 (12). D.J. Hayden -- $1.877 million

2 (43). Menelik Watson -- $872k

3 (6Cool. Sio Moore -- $578k

4 (114). Tyler Wilson -- $518k

Damn thats pretty cheap.
