I have a bit of an infatuation with Larry Wilson and would bump him up slightly higher... as high as top 3-5. He played with great ability, leadership, enthusiasm, effort, toughness and fearlessness. He was a ball hawk and a play maker. Wilson redefined the safety position as he utilized the safety blitz. He would often wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks in the backfield just as much as in the secondary. Wilson’s effort and toughness can be easily seen as he could even intercept passes with casts on both hands (as mentioned in the videos)... simply incredible.

I think Reed is the best safety I have ever seen. Lott and Reed 1a and b imo. _________________ AMERICA'S TEAM and 5x SB CHAMPIONS = DALLAS COWBOYS!!!!!

I'm not into the whole 1A-1B thing, always seems silly... 1B means 2, so say 2 |
Or.... it means they're both equally good and you put one as 1b because you have to. _________________

Great list. My only complaint is Rodney at 5? Seriously? He's never been that great of a safety and you can't forget the David Tyree miracle catch he allowed in the Super Bowl. All he had to do was jab his arm and poke the ball out.

In that case, just put them both at 1. Making them 1A and 1B definitely still implies one as better than the other. _________________

What about DARREN SHAWPUH? HE WAS THA HARDEST HITTIN SAFETY INDUH LEEEG
63 career interceptions, 11 TDs, 734 tackles, 5x Pro Bowler, 6x All-Pro, 2000s All-Decade Team and on top of all that, he was the hardest hitting safety in the league who only allowed touchdowns when the ball carrier's leg was broken and/or in beastmode. He should at least be an honorable mention. |

Rodney Harrison wasn't responsible for David Tyree on that play, it was Asante Samuel who was no where near his man, Harrison just reacted and tried to cover him late because he saw Samuel blew his coverage responsibly and actually did a pretty good job giving the fact he wasn't even supposed to be covering him. _________________

Yeah.... you can't simplify it to that. That could be said for any play and it'd be true but just really oversimplifying it. _________________

Mine would look more like this:
1. Lott
2. Houston
3. Woodson
4. Reed
5. Krause
6. Tunnell
7. Wilson
8. Polamalu
9. Dawkins
10. Pretty much a toss up between Easley, Harrison, and Tatum, but I would probably go Easley |

Then make a case for him being above the other guys... |
He's just better. Stats can't measure how dominant he is as a football player. You know it when you see it, Troy Polamalu is on a different level. |
Greatest. Argument. Ever!
Anyways, no Sean Taylor, can't take srsly
And I would honestly have Ed Reed at #1 but that's in part because he's my favorite player of all-time and also in part because I never saw Lott or #2 play. But as it stands I have no gripes with the list because i have no counter-arguments _________________ #FireDeanPees...and Chris Hewitt....and Matt Weiss |
