He was cut because he has diabetes and isn't going to be able to play.

That doesn't make sense if this was the teams reason for the release. He will be able to play. Type 2 diabetes is so easily managed, even for a professional athlete. Literally requires dietary adjustments and the living of general good lifestyle. (Supplemented with pill medication at times).

Major weak sauce by the Patriots if this is the case. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get picked up if Deaderick did. I mean, Love's not the greatest player ever, but given the depth there, shocked.

It's not 'easy' to manage any form of diabetes when your job requires you to be a fat tub of goo. Love isn't going to be effective at a weight which is suitable for his illness. He's not a 190 lbs WR.

Also, as noted, this could be a prelude to going on NFI though that doesn't seem likely based on his tweet

haha well I think he could be a healthy 310 pound DT and not a "tub of goo" and still be effective.

Bottom line is he'll need to get his health right before he takes another crack at football, it's just to bad the Patriots couldn't support him in that challenge rather then cutting him.

They offered him the chance to sit out for a year and do just that. They were even going to let him keep the signing bonus from his latest deal. He chose not to. And no, he's not going to be a healthy person at 310 pounds and 6'1". His weight and his condition preclude that possibility.

Not that I've read of. Kendall Simmons is the most comparable example I've found. He played guard at 315 pounds (including for the Patriots for part of a season) with type 1 diabetes. Even then, though, he had a lot less fat at his listed 315 pounds than Love does at his listed 310 (which I'm willing to bet is at least 330).

So, the Jaguars are just going to take all of the Pats' castoffs now?

They need all the help they can get.

I don't think Love and Deaderick are going to help them very much, relative to their needs. If the Pats cut a competent quarterback, maybe...

Out of this list i wouldn't mind us giving a shot to Sedrick Ellis, he had success as an interior pass-rusher in the past and has only been in the league for 5 seasons, after him Corey Williams will be the next best option to play next to Wilfork... of course, hopefully Kelly works out, but as a veteran depth behind them, Ellis or Williams could be nice.

No real loss from a talent perspective. While he was good at times, he was also totally useless at others. Too inconsistent to worry about losing. For depth purposes, it sucks. They'll have to find a street veteran I would think.

Who is there on the street though?

Richard Seymour.

Other options are: Former Steelers Casey Hampton, former Saints Sedrick Ellis, former Packers, Lions Corey Williams, former Texans, Bears Amobi Okoye , former Jets Sione Pouha, former Vikings, Bills Spencer Johnson, former Seahawks and Giants Rocky Bernard, former Lions and Texans Shaun Cody, former Ravens Maake Kemoeatu, former Chiefs and Panthers Ron Edwards, former Bills, Ravens and Broncos Justin Bannan, former Eagles and Rams Trevor Laws, former Patriots, Broncos Ty Warren.

Oh and Albert Haynesworth.

Kyle Love and Brandon Deaderick... JAGs on the Jags. In all seriousness though I hope Love's health situation works out for him. Scary stuff.

I'd take a shot at Okoye if they're looking for an upside guy for depth. He's still so young, since he came into the league at 19. Ellis was played out of position as a nose tackle at times too, he might fare a little better with a change of scenery. Overall, not a great crop of free agent DTs out there.

By the way, Love played 49% of the snaps last season.

Did anyone else put a claim in on Deaderick?

Bit surprised Chiefs didn't put in waiver requests for either Deaderick/Love. Unless buddy Belichick told Reid something about them. Hmm ...
