As I said on Total Access: Doctors fear #Chargers 2012 first rounder Melvin Ingram has suffered a torn ACL. Brutal.

Having lost lost Melvin Ingram to a torn ACL, Chargers are bringing DE/LB Dwight Freeney to San Diego on Weds for visit. New Chargers GM Tom Telesco spent past 15 seasons in Indianapolis.

"Hugh in CT" says his son (Dwight Freeney) is still in San Diego. Question is scheme. Hugh thought it would be Det, NE, or Ten.

Freeney left San Diego without having signed a contract, as outside linebacker Thomas Keiser was instead the one to ink a deal.

Especially considering who their doctor is. Regardless, this does not sound good at all for Ingram.

I know he didn't do much last season, but I was hoping Ingram would come on strong this year. Rough loss, especially since the Chargers have little depth at OLB.

Y'all want Jermaine Cunningham? He's yours for a 4th or 5th round pick.

The OLB experiment was a failure for him in Indy.

Freeney isn't really a 3-4 OLB. At any rate, I think Telesco wants to build through the draft and have the team get younger, not to mention the team is somewhat strapped for money right now thanks to the Gaither fiasco AFAIK.

We'll know this season what we have in McCoy. Pags too for that matter. They are going to have to decisively out coach every opponent this season.

In most cases that we were rushing the passer, we had a 4-3 under like alignment, with that elephant LB (Leo, Predator, Rush LB, Drop end, whatever you want to call it). So we would have one standup pass rusher, and one down rusher. We weren't nearly a traditional 3-4 defense, he's fit in rushing the passer as a down linemen, which he would be able to do in most cases.

But reguardless, it seems like we're going to be giving more 4-3 like looks anyway, our "OLB's" were all guys who would more than fit in a 4-3 (Johnson, English, Tourek Williams, and Ingram are all heavier (260ish) OLBs who can fit as 4-3 DE's as well. Dont think we're going to run any one true D, more of a real hybrid.

EDIT: Also wanted to mention that the term Base D is pretty useless now. Most of the time the nickel is in (considering the Nickel CB a starter is the norm now) so to say that we're running a hybrid is a bit of a stretch, more like there's so many different packages we're going to put in, that our "Base" 3-4 isn't really going to be in all that much.

Regardless of what scheme we are running, I'd prefer Abraham over Freeney

Edit:But honestly I would try to sign both if possible if I'm Telesco. Abraham could replace Ingram/Phillips as the starter and Freeney could replace Barnes in the situational pass rusher role(which was a need before this injury). In that situational role Freeney would be more of a 43DE anyway and keep in mind he had a high ankle sprain that bothered him last year. He sucks against the run but so did Barnes and Phillips.

Same here, but I can't shake the feeling that they're going to continue to stick to the youth movement and we end up with Trevor Scott. Not that Scott is a bad player, but I'd hope they make an exception for the better upgrade...

Tom Telesco is not wasting any time.

Hours after losing key pass-rusher Melvin Ingram for the 2013 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in a non-contact drill, the San Diego Chargers general manager is bringing in Dwight Freeney in for a visit Wednesday, ESPNís Adam Schefter is reporting. Telesco was with the Colts organization when Indianapolis drafted Freeney in 2002 and the two were together there through last season.

This isnít a meet-and-greet. The Chargers are bringing Freeney in because Telesco is ready to make a move.

The obvious like from both being in Indy is why I suggested him first, looks like I was right. Just hope they don't overpay leaving us without some more O line help.
