Joseph Fauria is the guy I'm keeping an eye on. 6'8" 250lbs.

He is definitely my favorite UDFA; the issue is that I have a hard time seeing him making the active roster. As far as I've heard he's an awful blocker and avoids contact. Our top two TEs are virtually locked into place, and we spent a draft pick on a third that can fulfill Heller's role to a tee, down to having experience as an H-back. He can also play the role Reiff played last year as an extra blocker in running or goal line situations.

Fauria will have to prove he's a better receiving option than Tony Scheffler to have a chance at making this roster, IMO. That said, he's got great size and athleticism and an NFL pedigree to boot (Christian Fauria is his uncle). If the Lions have to save some money, cutting Scheffler in favor of Fauria would accomplish that end, if they're confident Fauria can play that role.

I'm also gonna be keeping an eye on Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis. We know what we have in Ashlee Palmer, but last year's linebacker class also has a chance to earn the starting OLB spot opposite Deandre Levy. I guess Carmen Messina is in the mix too, but he's a longshot.

honestly, if Greenwood becomes what I hope he can, as well as Slay, Houston is the odd man out. which sucks because I really like him but Slay and Greenwood have a much higher ceiling on God's Gifts alone.
Houston actually knows how to play football, I don't think he has anything to worry bout.

Houston contract will be up about time these guys are worthy to take his spot

That and in today's NFL you need more than two competent CBs. I don't expect Greenwood to be a star this year, but he has such a high ceiling if his head is right and he is a smart football player. I don't know if he is or isn't, so that's sort of the questions I have on him.

As for the Devin Taylor talk, I like his athleticism and size, but I don't care how many great players were on that D, he wasn't an impact player. If he was he would have went much higher. I hope he can be coached up, but I'm not banking on it, at least for this year. I think it's more likely Ronnell Lewis adds some weight and plays more.

I agree. Taylor needs a lot of coaching. Elite measurables/athleticism, poor technique/leverage.

IIRC Schwartz said Taylor helped Clowney's stats. His words.

Devin Taylor reminds me a lot of Michael Johnson, the DE from the Bengals. He has the same height and size. He also has the same questions about his consistency and technique. I am hoping he will turn into the same type of player for the Lions.

Lance Long, WR

I think if the Lions give him a shot he could do big things in the Special Teams and even as a slot reciever like he did in KC

I would like to see Cody Wilson shine and make the 53 man roster. he may not be as fast as the others but he can catch and run precise routes and play special teams

Nate Burleson on my guy Patrick Edwards:

"I guarantee he will be a big-time playmaker for us this year."

Travis Lewis. It may not happen out of the gate but I think he has an excellent chance to start at OLB.

I'm hoping for this as well.

We actually have quite a few younger guys who have a chance to step up into a role. Whether that's starting or not.

2nd yr guys-

Ryan Broyles- Slot WR; produced as a rookie but needs to stay healthy.

Bill Bentley/Jonte Green/Chris Greenwood- DBs; all could develop into at the very least, good depth for our team.

Travis Lewis- LB; IMO has the best chance to snag that open OLB starting spot.

Riley Reiff- LT; let's see what the kids got.

Rookies-

Ziggy Ansah- DE; I'm not high on the kid, but if IF he can develop some football skills, he could be very decent next to our DTs.

Larry Warford- RG; He's the most sure thing we drafted IMO. He's an instant starter and an upgrade over Peterman right away.

Darius Slay/Corey Fuller- CB/WR; They have potential. Let's see what they can do.

Sam Martin- P/K; Can he find a role on the team? It would be nice if he could.

UDFAs- (not just this years)

Kellen Moore- QB; Will he earn that 3rd strong spot over Thaddeus Lewis?

Joseph Fauria- TE; He's big and hungry. Can he make plays and earn a spot?

Ricardo Silva- S; He's shown flashes of brilliance at times, and been horrid at other times. Can he step up, stay consistent and earn a roster spot behind Delmas?

Add is some key Free Agents (Reggie Bush, Glover Quin) and the Lions have a lot to look forward to this summer.

Fauria, (Travis) Lewis, and Edwards are the main ones I'm keeping an eye on. All very talented guys, who seemed to suffer injuries at the wrong times and fell to 7th/UFA territory.
