How anyone could react vitriolic towards McNabb is beyond me.

He wasn't supposed to be Joe Montana.
He wasn't even supposed to be a QB.
But, he fared well.

He wasn't perfect, but he led his team to five NFC Championship games.
You could blame him for all four losses ... or zero.

You can chose to remember him for his last two years in Philly ... or his first 10.

Yes, he lost a Super Bowl.
But, did he lose it?
Or was it a team effort?

I don't want to split hairs here, but McNabb was a good QB for many, many years.
Name three better ones in Eagles' history.
OK, name two.

He was what he was and should be appreciated for that.

Unfortunately there are those so blinded by hatred the obvious can't be appreciated. Well said though. I still remember people giving me slack in 07' about my screen name until I explained the reasoning. Cool Mc"Nabbs4u"All

That's over the top.

He was a very good QB for a long period of time. It's just too bad we couldn't take that final step with him.

Not really. It's no more over the top then retiring any of the other #'s who never won a SB title as a Eagle. For 11 years he was the unquestioned Face of the Franchise and regardless of how people feel about his inability to win the SB his success during that time period is unmatched by any previous Eagle QB. Sad thing is had they won a SB in 2004 you and others wouldn't even think twice about it being retired. Which is sad in the bigger picture.

Couldn't agree with you more Nabbs. I think he is a lock to have number 5 retired one day. Honestly, what Eagles QB was better? Jaworski? Cunningham? No Eagles QB has a super bowl, and no Eagles QB has the resume of McNabb. If any Eagles QB deserves to have his number retired, it is McNabb.

I don't think you retire his number, but he was a great QB.

Hall of Famers get their number retired, and not all of them, saying McNabb should is ridiculous, he had one year of being Elite really, and the rest were very good, if you're retiring his number then Runyan and Thomas would have their retired as would many others and we'd be having decimal numbers.

I wouldn't retire a number unless the player was at least a borderline HOF.

McNabb was consistently good for a long period of time. Would you consider retiring his number if he wasn't the face of the franchise? Should simply being being the best QB of a franchise without any HOF's at the position be celebrated to that extent? I don't think McNabb deserves to get his number retired anymore than a guy like Tra Thomas.

McNabb deserves to be honored. But retiring his number would just be romanticizing an era that will ultimately be remembered as a failure.

I'm fully convinced Andy was more at fault for the losses than McNabb in all honesty. Andy is good at developing QB's but that's about it.

Organizational failures with regard to:
1. Getting viable receivers
2. Utilizing RBs better
3. Building a physical and talented roster.

Reid had a lot to do with all of that.
(Yes I know there were more than those 3).

At first I thought what about Tra Thomas... but then I checked when he was drafted.
Then Dawk came to mind but I was sure Reid didn't draft him... yep
Same for Trotter...
Shawn Andrews was pretty nasty in his brief career but we all know what happened there

So the only guy I could come up with is Sheldon Brown. Maybe Cole? But he doesn't come to mind when you say 'physical players'.

I don't think they will retire Mcnabb's number but they've silently been avoiding giving out #5 to anybody. Wouldn't be surprised if they did.

I don't see any reason not to retire it, since only QBs can wear it and there's plenty of other numbers to chose from...

I could see McNabb getting some HOF lOve in a down year

Not many QBs go to 5 NFC championship games. That's consistent success. He's pretty much the leader in most major eagles passing catagories

I'm not sure how college figures in but he was one of the best ever in the big east

His total numbers are nice 37k passing over 3k rushing

6 pro bowls

It's a long shot but I'll give him 10% chance

I was Driving to school today, and I was listening to WIP. Angelo Cataldi wants to take the dirty 30 and boo McNabb. Laughing he said "wait for the intelligent people to wake up and vote" because at like 7AM it was about 75% no.

I get the feeling #5 will be retired. He's our all-time leader in a bunch of passing categories, and considering that #12 (Cunningham) isn't given out for respect even though it isn't officially retired, I see the team showing McNabb some love here.

I'm all for shelving #5 next to #12 (though someone should be able to use that soon).....but not retiring it all together.

But I'm of the opinion that only #15, #20, and #60 should be retired

I get the arguments for the others, but those three players fit my criteria for it.

The rest should be in circulation....#92 would be another shelved one, but that would've been a good one to give to Fletcher last season as a badge of honor thing. The others enough time has pasted that they'd be worn.

My big hang up with Reggie is that he left...and is recognized as a Packers probably more than he is an Eagles. Dawk left because they low balled him....but he was still an Eagle and always will be like Chuck and SvB.
