I'm a little torn there. I like the idea of having a thread for each player we are tracking, but that would really add a ton of new threads and crowd up the board. Then again, even if we did an offensive and defensive thread, some people's posts might get lost in the mix of everyone elses' debate/discussion. I guess I would vote for a thread for each player being tracked throughout the season.

Adopt a Viking: Week 1 vs _____
Adopt a Viking: Week 2 vs _____
Adopt a Viking: Week 3 vs _____
etc...

then everyone can look at that thread and see how individual players did that week. a thread for each player would be a circus, pushing other discussions off the first page which would then lead to accidental duplications.

if you have a thread for each Adopt a Viking, then that it was would dominate our entire forum front page for 17 weeks, which only holds 40 threads.

OK, fair point. Don't want to clutter things up.

Just don't see much benefit in having a weekly thread when there's already a weekly game thread. It would be interesting to have some longitudinal tracking, week by week, to follow the ups and downs over the season..

We could streamline it by grouping the theads by positions:
Viking tracker 2013: Quarterbacks
Running backs
Offensive line
Tight ends and receivers
Defensive line
Linebackers
Defensive backs
Kickers and special teams

That's only 8 threads, each of which would last all year. Grouping by position would be even more interesting than following a single player because discussion about one player (can Henderson cover tight ends) could spill over into another (is Hodges any better).

Don't mean to make too big a deal of this, if you're not feeling the idea don't worry. Just a suggestion.

^^ these are more or less the same groupings Pelissero used last year for his film grades, so we'd have some expert opinion to add to the thread for the things that are hard to chart in real time on the broadcast, like blocking schemes or missed tackles.

Can't believe nobody suggested this yet. Great idea Krauser. This would work well, IMO.

I'll take part, if it's not already too crowded. Willing to take one of the later picks if there's a draft.

yeah, Krauser's "adopt a Viking positional threads" is a good idea.

Applause

and i guess the positional thread for QB's would become our year long Ponder thread too, if people could discipline themselves to keep all the QB chat in there.

Players are, typically, also tracked in the signature of the adopting "parent."

eh, i'm not going to do that because it's just stats that way. i intend to list those every week, but in far more detail with commentary also.

Right.

The signature line is just a stat tracker, the thread is where you would go more in depth.

I'm going to cut the signups off at 30, that way, as some have said, someone doesn't get stuck with a lineman or seldom used player.

Yeah, something like that, maybe draw numbers out of a hat, or maybe something like the NBA lottery except that I won't rig the heck out of it in my favor.
