Unless you can see the future, I don't see how it could work. |
It doesn't have to be a guarantee that they will be on the team. We know we are probably going to draft a linebacker next year, or we might sign a defensive end. |

I agree with Klomp. Just don't think we have enough to go on a whole year ahead of time. _________________

let's have a discussion as to the format we will have in place to discuss our cute little adoptees every week.
will there be one thread for them? one for offense and one for defense? i can't remember what we came up with. _________________

My idea was to group them by position.

Just don't see much benefit in having a weekly thread when there's already a weekly game thread. It would be interesting to have some longitudinal tracking, week by week, to follow the ups and downs over the season..
We could streamline it by grouping the theads by positions:
Viking tracker 2013: Quarterbacks
Running backs
Offensive line
Tight ends and receivers
Defensive line
Linebackers
Defensive backs
Kickers and special teams
That's only 8 threads, each of which would last all year. Grouping by position would be even more interesting than following a single player because discussion about one player (can Henderson cover tight ends) could spill over into another (is Hodges any better). |
Not sure there was any consensus for that idea. |

I'm cool with it. No one wants this forum to be cluttered with topics about every single player on this team. You'd never be able to get any real information from this page.
I'm all in. New threads by position make a lot of sense! _________________

That'd still be a ton of threads...but that's just my opinion. _________________

We could also group it by skill positions (QB, RB, WR), Lines (OL and DL), LB's and DB's and then ST's. Less threads. Less clutter. Just my two cents. _________________

Why not Offense, Defense, Special Teams? Or just one thread for each week? _________________

Offense/Defense seems like the best split to me. Does special teams needs it's own thread? _________________

Mike Priefer lowers his head...
would these be ongoing threads, or a new one after each game? _________________

My thought was that we'd have one thread per group that would get added to week by week, so we'd have longitudinal information about how players performed during the year. There's a thread about how the defense did last year (Vikings Defense under Alan Williams?) that got updated like that last season. There's already a game thread every week, no need to have a separate thread for how the players did in that game.
Grouping by O/D/ST would be fine. I guess the offense thread would be huge, once people start arguing about some of the stats (Ponder's passer rating vs YPA, etc) so that's why I suggested positional groups. |

I adopted Defensive Coordinator Alan Williams a while back. Here is an example of what I plan on doing each week. This is from the Week 17 game vs. Green Bay.
The column on the left is just a play-by-play chart. The middle column has the personnel group, number of pass rushers, man or zone defense, and type of zone defense (if applicable) on each play. On the far right is a summation of all the data, which I will accumulate over the entire season. I plan on using Google Docs so it is easier to access each week.
I'm open to an additional ideas as well. |
