It was refreshing to see a CB of Rhodes caliber on the field. Its early yet and its only rookie mini-camp, but Rhodes so easily passes the eye test as a physical and fast CB capable of covering receivers man-to-man all the way down the field. Numerous times during 7-on-7 and 1-on-1 drills Rhodes was excellent in his drop, pedal and burst forward to react to a receiver and stay in their hip pocket to make a play on the ball or force a bad throw.

He did some things today in this first practice that really opened your eyes, Frazier said after the morning practice. I think he has the game that fits what the League is becoming. Now its a matter of how fast does he mature and how confident can he be when he lines up in that first ball game.

One thing is for sure. By the time Patterson gets to the regular season, press coverage will be a walk in the park. Going against Rhodes is like lining up across from a safety.

I would not be the least bit surprised to see Rodney Smith make the opening day roster.

That is what I am hoping for. His combination of size and speed is appealing. He physically looks like Brandon Marshall, MN could use that type of WR. Smith could use some more upper body strength, but he seems to have a thick core and has good leg drive to be a decent route runner. Smith has struggled with ball skills and will really need to show a lot to make the final roster.. But I am pulling for him to land the #5 WR spot. I think Smith should have been drafted.

Any word about Duron Carter and his tryout? How does he compare to Rodney Smith?

If your coaches can get Smith to play hard, he should be decent WR.

Seems like Rhodes already making a good impression.

Thats actually a very good comparison.

He looks to fast to be a pure possession receiver, but he's not a burner.

I'd love to see this guy develop and play for us. I'm sure Ponder would too.

The Minnesota Vikings tried out 34 players during their rookie minicamp this weekend. It appears at least one of those players earned a longer look.

Former Minnesota State, Mankato receiver Adam Thielen said he's signing a contract with the Vikings on Monday, pending a physical.

Pellisero tweeted today that the Vikings won't offer him a contract.

Always fun to see players I've got to watch up close get a shot.

Good luck Adam!

That too bad, it would have made for a really cool story. Hopefully he gets on somewhere else.

Yeah, it's a bummer! I was pulling for the kid. From what I read, he has the physical, football talent...just not the desire to attend college (I have personally returned to college from a 20+ year hiatus...hated it when I was a youngster). I wish all the best to Duron, although it would've been nice to have CC mentoring CP.

So, it looks like Adam Thielen is guy to receive the contract!? Not Duron or Smith like I would have guessed. I will be interested to see Thielen play as I do not know much about him.
