This is going to be a very big year for our starting RT. He is entering his second year as our starter after a promising 2012 campaign. With his contract up after the season, his play this season will have a huge impact on his career and the future of the RT spot for this team. If he shows needed improvement this season, he is a guy that we should try to sign to long-term extension.

What do you guys think about Howard? Are you confident with him at RT for this season and many seasons to come?

Should get better with experience. Worst case scenario is Slauson-like IMO. But we have Colon and Aboushi as insurance too.

Here is what Rex said about Howard today...

I feel like the kid just kept getting better, after a full offseason working as the starting RT i feel like he could be even better. I am thinking top 10 RT in the run game, and hopefully top 15 in pass pro.

Rex hypes everyone. Remember at one time he compared Sanchez to Brady. Howard though can be a above average RT for us, which s perfectly fine

I'm not sure I remember that comparison but I get your point with Howard. I wouldn't sign him long term if he plays like last year but I'd give him a 3 year deal probably. I just don't want him to fool us like a certain other RT did.

He shouldn't hold the job through camp without a challenge of some sort but I think he's earned the opportunity to still be in the mix to start again.

I agree with Davey.

I really like what he did last season. He held his own against good defenders. He earned this opportunity to start again. Now that he has experience and will go into the season as the starter, I expect to see him improve. I'm very interested in seeing how he does under Marty.

Howard's a mediocre option at RT but I'm glad we drafted aboushi. I like the thought of competition at almost all positions. I think our line will be very solid after a few weeks of jellin'.

Howard is solid. Oday will compete against him, but I think he'll win the job.
