49ers rookie RB Marcus Lattimore (ACL, PCL, LCL surgery) resumed running sprints two weeks ago and has been doing jumping drills.
He'll resume agility work in "a few weeks" and has experienced "no setbacks." Lattimore anticipates being able to put on pads "in three to four months." NFL training camp begins in three months. "Whatever is best for my career or future, I'm good with it," Lattimore said. "The 49ers and the coaches there, we'll come to a conclusion of what we should do. I'm just so fired up, I'm excited about everything and just ready to work hard."

I would like to put him on PUP instead of IR. Then around week 6-8 re-evaluate. If we suffer an injury at RB than we can slide in Lattimore (if he's ready). If not than we can shut him down for the whole year.

Agreed I feel this is also the best course of action.

It would be dope if he got a carry at the end of the year.

I think Lattimore will eventually ends up with #21 when Gore retires down the line. But Gore is on Pace to have his number retired with us imo an if Lattimore eventually wore it an killed it in the NFL for 10 years or so then two guys could have one number retired. HAHA just a thought. Dont really think Lattimore has the ability to play that long but do believe he can be a star for a while.

considering he is the all-time rushing king in just about every major stastical category for the 49ers, I'm sure he will be and #21 will be retired

yea no doubt, the question i have is will he ever be in the HOF? I think if he over the rest of his career gets up to 11,000 yards (2200 away, top 20 all time) he'll get in. but he might not even need that if he leads us to a SB

^^Thats a question I've been struggling with for a while now.. right now he is 34th all time in yards with 8839, just behind AP.. Steven Jackson is 1300 yards ahead of Gore as it stands.. let's say Frank has 2 years left as a starter and gets 2200 yards total over those years... that puts him right at 12,039..

if he plays 2-3 more seasons after that in a reserve role, getting 2-300 yards a year at worst, he could get up to around 13K.. that would put him right into the top 10 all time.. so yeah it's possible, but can he hold up long enough to do it? who knows..

as it stands, Gore has been in the league for 8 years (will be 30 in about a week).

here's how he stacks up right now against some guys who are in
Code:

-----------------yrs--carries-yards-avr-tds---rec--yds--tds
Earl Campbell    8  2,187 9,407   4.3  74   121   806   0
O.J. Simpson     11 2,404 11,236  4.7  61   203   2,142 14
Barry Sanders    10 3,062 15,269  5.0 99    352  2,921  10
Marshall Faulk   12 2,836 12,279  4.3 100   767   6,875  36
JEROME BETTIS    13 3,479 13,662  3.9  91   200  1,449   3
Marcus Allen     16 3,022 12,243  4.1 123   587  5,411  21

Frank Gore       8   1911  8839    4.6  51   315   2631   10

so.. I don't know. He's got a shot, but I think he'd have to get ahead of Edge James for sure, who is at 12,246 (12th all time, just 4.0 yds/car, though)

Patton is going to look dope in #11, Lattimore going with 38 is different so I like it. Why is Reid's temporary what number is he trying to get?

He probably wants #1, which he wore at LSU. Single digit numbers are generally reserved for QBs and kickers as I understand it, but we don't currently have anybody wearing #1, so I could see them giving it to Reid at the end of the preseason if he does well and looks like a starter. Or not. Harbaugh isn't a very indulgent guy, and he may make Reid earn the number as a starter, rather than making an exception for the rookie. In fact, now that I think about it, my bet is that Harbaugh does exactly that - blah blah we're a meritocracy, blah blah...

Is there really an NFL rule about that? I had no idea.

yeah, every position has desinated numbers... some cross over like 20s-40s to rbs and dbs, teens and 80s go to wrs while 70s and 90s go to dline, 50s and 90s to lbs, under 10 only kickers and qbs, etc

math was never my best subject but isnt 8,800 + 2,200 =11,000? I dont think Frank has a chance to get 12,000. well I guess there is a chance but its very slim. I think his HOF chances depend on our team success at this point.
