We have seen the end of the first draft under the new regine, one headed by David Caldwell.

#2 Luke Joeckel, LT/RT Texas A&M
#33 Johnathan Cyprien, SS Florida International
#64 Dwayne Gratz, CB Connecticut
#98 - Traded for #101 + #210
#101 Ace Sanders, WR/KR South Carolina
#135 Denard Robinson, RB/WR Michigan
#169 Josh Evans, FS Florida
#208 Jeremy Harris, CB New Mexico St.
#210 Demetrius McCray, CB Appalachian St.

This immediately raises the question, how good did we do?

The draft had a clear direction to it. We set out to get faster with players that fit the mold of a Gus Bradley defense, and players that add speed and flexibility on offense and Special Teams. That much is evident, but will these players help build a foundation in which success is built upon?

Love the influx of speed and the clear direction and colaboration between Caldwell and Bradley.

It's a refreshing breeze to see players selected and understanding why they were selected.

Gave them a B because other areas weren't adressed (pass rusher, OLB, DT), but with 3 LB coaches on our staff, I think LB will be alright.

I'd give it a B, I love taking Joeckel because it sures up the outside and means this is it for Gabbert. Time to nut-up to shut up. Love getting Cyprien and Gartz is growing on me. Ace and Dennard have me very excited which is always a good feeling to have leaving the draft. I dont know anything about the other 3 so i cant really comment on them

Thought it was solid filling in our biggest needs, but failed to bring in QB to challenge Blaine. A-

Whether or not Monroe is on the 2014 opening day roster weighs heavily on this draft. I'll vote then.

I do like that there was a theme of getting guys who fit the identity of what Gus wants to do.

I will hold judgement until after the season, Still worried about no pass rush if Gus and Babich can etch out a respectable pass rush with this rag tag group up front I will commend them but we will have trouble on defense this year because we are really young on the back end of the defense Defensive coaches have their work cut out for them this year. But if they get it done i'd say they are some true GURUs.

I'd be more worried about the pass-rush if i didnt have faith in Gus to get these guys to perform at a higher level in the pass-rush department

If we're being real here

2009 - 28 sacks (26th)
2010 - 37 sacks (13th)
2011 - 33 sacks (19th)
2012 - 36 sacks (18th)

He's never been great at getting sacks.

Bruh, it's y'all.

I'm not a fan of the Joeckel pick, but like it more after seeing how quickly offensive linemen were picked in the first. I give the Jags a B. It'll be interesting to see how this class looks in 3 years.

Whats not to like, honestly?
2 starting caliber Safeties that are scheme fits.
2 starting corners, and another depth guy, who has the skills to start.
THE best prospect in the draft, at THE biggest need, who cares if its a RT.
Oh, and $EC speed.

I gave it an A. we have no idea how good of an evaluator of talent caldwell is, so for now I'm just going to give him the benefit of the doubt. What did impress me, and ultimately why I gave him an A, is that no pick felt "forced". I thought he did a good job of letting the draft come to him and not making obvious picks for need ala smith & harris. Most telling is that he didn't draft a qb or a de, two areas of need where it would have easy to try to force a pick.

I'll give it a B.

Really hit it big on the first 3 picks, but after that...i'm a bit wary of what Caldwell did.

Joeckel, Cyprien, Gratz is a fantastic trio to add to our roster and it fills needs, while also grabbing the best guys available.

Day 3 though...i wasn't a huge fan of any of the picks, and i think some of them i actually dislike a bit, based on the other guys taken. I get that Bradley wanted 'speed' on the team...but colour me a skeptic until these wildcards actually pan out. I think there were legitimate starting defenders and even receivers on the board in the 4th and 5th rounds. It feels like we got a pair of gimmick players, which i'm going to have to wait on seeing how Bradley actually uses them to effect. If he gets a lot out of them...cool. But i'm still skeptical that is possible in the realities of the NFL and a Pro offense.

But he didn't reach on a QB that didn't fit, or didn't seem worth it...and i'll give him huge credit for that. Same goes for the idea of trying to find a LEO late in the draft...it's just not happening, so i'm glad Caldwell had the sense to go elsewhere with the late picks.
