With the 130th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select:

Kyle Juszczyk, HB, Harvard

DB mod note: I understand the idea, but correct your language before posting. Stuff like that won't be tolerated here. Let's share insights, not just react.

I knew the Ravens liked him, and that he visited them before the draft. But 4th round? No one selects FBs in the 4th. This guy surely would have been there in the 6th.

Wonder what this means for Vonta Leach, because while Juszcyzk has played TE for Harvard, he's very undersized for it in the NFL. Still, that means he's a guy who can play that role as a pass catching back, which we know the Ravens love.

So is this the end of the Vonta Leach era in Baltimore?

If so, why wasn't he released earlier in the off-season?

Perhaps Juszcyzk (oh boy, that's going to be fun to type) will fill in as the Ravens' 3rd TE this year, and Leach will stay on for the last year of his contract.

His Twitter handle is JuiceCheck44. Might as well go with that, makes it easier for everyone. Laughing

I like his versatility. He could be Vonta Leach's replacement, or he can be used as an H-back this year and Leach plays out the final year of his contract.

Yeah... no way, I'm going to type his name out. From now on, he's just going to be KJ to me. I'm not a fan of this pick though.

But trying to rationalize it, maybe the Ravens felt that most of the best TE options were off the board and that KJ is a h-back type of guy that based on talent looks like a 2nd/3rd round guy... but isn't ranked in that range because of his less than ideal height for a TE.

I don't know... that's the best I could do.

Juszczyk reminds me of Marcel Reece. A pretty tough matchup. He is a very versatile player, who can line up at HB, FB, H-Back, and TE. He should be a great locker room player and special teamer. He is a bit of a reach in the 4th round, but is the kind of player the fans will love in a year or two.

You know what, I'm starting to like this pick. A versaitel guy who's great at blocking is never a bad thing.
And his catching ability could come in handy, considering how the Ravens have used Leach and McClain in the past.

Mayock loves him. Calls him a thug but in a complimentary way. He was very impressed by him at the Senior Bowl.

NFLDS projected him rounds 3-4.

I like it. Very fluid athlete and versatile.

Those who wanted more of a HB type should be thrilled with this pick. I don't mind it. The worst thing is it probably means that Leach only has a year left in Baltimore. Juszczyk reminds me of a more athletic Le'Ron McClain and I expect the Ravens to use him in a similar role. Now that the offense will probably be a bit more spread-heavy he should be more valuable than McClain was too.

I think Vontae is likely to be traded with this pick. Jim Caldwell comes from Indy which used an H Back for years, and I think KJ will be used in that role. With a lineup of KL, Pitta / Dickson, Rice, Smith, and Jones, the Ravens can line up in anything from a traditional I formation to a five wide set. This pick screams scheme diversity to me. I personally would have preferred Lonnie Pryor, but KJ is bigger and more physical, and a more polished receiver.

The more I think about this pick, the more I think that Vonta Leach's roster spot is safe but Anthony Allen will be looking for work soon.
