This should be the end of Cole, at least on defense. That's very good.

Cole wasn't bad over the slot, but yeah, not comfortable with the thought of him being the #3/4 corner long-term.

Wonder what this means for Dowling...

Be healthy, or be gone.

I'm surprised people are so down on Ryan.

Watching him he looks solid. Wish he was a bit faster. Love his physicality and willingness to do the dirty work in run game when needed. I expect him to be our 5th CB next yr.

He's a bit slow, but he's a good football player. Might have the versatility to kick to safety and should help in the kicking game.

I don't think he's a long-term solution as a starter, but I definitely think he has the ability to contribute a fair bit.

I have no issue w/ the pick. He looks good on most plays then he has a play where he's outran or just over commits and makes a poor attempt at a tackle. I noticed this watching Harmon clips vs ark. When Ryan messed up he looked awful. But when i went back to watch him specifically he looks pretty good for majority of the plays.
Kinda similar to McCourty that he'd be great for majority of the game and made one bad play looked absolutely stupid and people thought he was bad.

Reading he had the top 3-cone drill in the draft, I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone.

Rab, can you explain to me why you don't like Ryan? Serious question....

Wow, with his poor 'deep recovery speed' I'm surprised by this information.

Obviously doesn't have that '2nd Gear' but the 1st is pretty impressive it would seem.

Doesn't look like a Safety convert though considering we took Harmon a few picks later.

He can be beat over the top, but that's what Safeties are for right? If you relegate that, his coverage of the route tree is superb. Slants, hooks, crosses and posts, he covers better than anyone else in this draft. Great instincts for a Corner too...

Honestly, on all their tapes, they seemed very on the same page and have good chemistry from a CB-to-S support standpoint. Not sure if you saw that too or you were just making a correlation. Smile

Quote:
@Rich_T_Hill: So watched the Logan Ryan cut-ups. Very little potential as a slot guy. Purely outside. Gotta think he get's Dowling's roster spot."

@Rich_T_Hill: His lack of straight line speed shows (think of Dennard), but he has high awareness and can make up a step or two with his intelligence.

@Rich_T_Hill: Physical in run game, able to shed against most receivers and is willing to engage with pulling lineman. Will get engulfed, but slows play.

@Rich_T_Hill: On routes 20+ yards down the field, he'll lose a step to the receiver. Harmon saved his behind on more than one occasion.

@Rich_T_Hill: Ryan doesn't look like he can be an island corner, but will be fine with a solid safety (DMC) behind him. Likes to be physical.

@Rich_T_Hill: I think Ryan will be a good fit in the defense as NE tries to use more man and be more physical. Just don't let him cover crossing routes.

@Rich_T_Hill: Hard to ignore Harmon in the background of those cut-ups since he's shadowing Ryan on almost every sideline throw.

So why can't he play the slot if he's so agile and good at mirroring, fluid, etc.? Can't jam to make up for his deep speed?
