3rd Round Selection

Rab has got the draft day discussion thread up and going, we will use these threads for individual Patriot draft pick discussion. I'll put the thread up at the beginning of each new round that we currently have a draft pick in.

In the event that it's traded, we'll just edit this to discuss the result of that trade. DRAFT DAY!/WEEKEND!!!

83rd Overall

Name: Logan Ryan
Position: CB
College: Rutgers

NFL draft profile: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/logan-ryan?id=2540162

Logan Ryan.

I was never a huge fan, but he fits our new scheme relatively well. We shall see.

We like CBs from Rutgers. He is lanky. Logan Ryan. Here in the 3rd because he didn't burn at combine.

Another Rutgers CB... Confused

Don't see him as being a reliable starting corner, more of a backup for the foreseeable future.

McCourty was pulling for Ryan when PFW had him on their Podcast.

He'd make a better safety imo. Pulling for him to pull it out and be a contributor. Secondary needs him to step his play up.

Why exactly don't you guys like him? He's scheme diverse and has solid man to man coverage. Sound and very willing tackler. Clogs up the outside and comes up to support. Only thing I would knock on him is, he may be a little over aggressive causing penalties from time to time, but I would not use that to down play him. I love the pick.

Might develop into a good player. I guess, he is not worse than the other available defensive backs.

Let's hope he's more effective at bump & run than McCourty was. I don't trust his recovery speed at all.

Im meh on this. But thats ok since he will play behind Talib, Denard, Aarington, and probably even McCourty in some situations

Im thinking Dennard and McCourty rotate at corner opposite Talib and Ryan rotates with Arrington and McCourty between the nickel and safety positions. Weird sort of scheme for the upcoming season, lots of rotation and versatility.

McCourty should be at safety full-time. I see no reason why Dennard shouldn't be the starting RCB.

I'm looking at his highlights right now... he's going to get so many pass interference calls lol, he doesn't look back for the ball. I'm seeing him run into the WRs with his hands up. That scares me. Shows he's very physical tho, he can tackle and hit very well.

Absolutely. McCourty is a beast at centerfield, and if not he plays it at a level that is difficult and costly resources-wise to replace.
