Would have prefered Armstead or Jonathan Jenkins, but I'm not mad at the Swearinger pick. He can really lay the wood and we need a 3rd safety for depth. Plus he will be learning from Ed Reed. What's not to like? Also, is this the earliest we have drafted a S? Laughing

Quote:
Bottom Line
This tenacious hitter originally planned on going to Tennessee, but the resignation of Phillip Fulmer sent him into the arms of Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. He's played in every game since he arrived on campus, except for the 2012 matchup against Missouri, for which he was suspended after a hit on a defenseless receiver. He has played both free and strong safety, and his good performances as a spot duty at corner against big receivers suggests he has the potential to cover NFL tight ends in coverage well. He projects to be a day two pick.

Can't wait when he is matched up with tight ends like Gronk and Hernandez.

I'm very ehhhhh on this pick. We need a guy with coverage skills, not a hitter. I sure hope he plays faster than he times.

He has the ability to cover tight ends well, and that's why we need him. He is going to come in handy when we play a team like the Patriots again in the playoffs. That's one of the reasons why we lost to them in the AFC playoffs.

He'll probably start off on the Quin role in passing subpackages. This move also likely means that we will once again use more dime than nickel.

He brings a different element to our safety group, and he's got the potential to be a really good nfl starter. Its been a while since we've seen a knockout hitter in our secondary.

Bernard Pollard 3 seasons ago. Wink
I think he will be way better and more useful than Pollard was however.

Best pick in the draft IMO. You guys got an absolute steal and he's going to go down as a great one.

The rich get richer.

Beat me to it, JMG. Excellent pick. My #2 safety in the draft after Johnathan Cyprien.

Sounds like he will be taking Quin's spot in our 3 safety set while Reed plays the role that Demps and Keo could burned playing.....this could end up being a very good thing with as much as we run a 3 safety set.....Manning and Reed are still both getting up there in age so safety will still be a need come next years draft unless we grab a 4th one this year
